Gary Vaynerchuk: Hello everybody and welcome to Wine Library TV. I am your host Gary Vaynerchuk and this my friends is the thunder show aka The Internet’s most passionate wine program. And we stay on the white wines from Italy theme we go north, way north to Alto Adige and which is clearly in my opinion, maybe they’ll open your area to make white wine in Italy’s obsessed as you know. I talked about yesterday about the wines of the south in Compania, I think Alto Adige the complexities and the wine of cells are just as staggering I mean, and you can clearly see a theme developing. I think 2010 is going to be all about Italian whites not name Pinot Gragio. You know anything but, Pinot Gragio instead of ABC anything but Chardonnay became a theme in the US, ABP from me.
So we’ve got two Pinot Biancos here, Pinot Bianco is really an interesting variety of Pinot Bianco. It’s a generic mutation of Pinot Noir and that alone is very nerdy Matt you know as Transformer fans we love that. Pinot Bianco is a very intriguing varietals that has enormous amounts of complexity for white wine which you really need about is it’s originated from Burgundy, White Burgundy with Chardonnay country you know and such a very intriguing varietals that I think is massively under rated and again 12 and 18 bones, I mean the 18 dollar here the Terlan is 90 point spectator has been a brilliant preserved, passed of dying to try it actually. Before we get in to the show, big shootout to Shawn’s friend Killie, it’s a little inside tip, Shawn’s a good dude Killie, he’s a good dude.
Anyway let’s move on, Tramin 2008 Pinot Bianco, 80 points Antonio Giuliani which is a great score for the guy who scores Italian wines for Robert Parker and 12 US dollars. So an opportunity, really interesting by the way, neither is like the standard bottle most people see is like a short and pointy, tall and skinny. It’s kind of like really like you know having Costello kind of, the Abbot Costello of wine bottles. And like you noticed if you remember from yesterday this is definitely a different coloring than the Falanghina. You know I’ve had a tremendous memory that I can remember back to yesterday and see the difference in colors so easily. But you know clearly it’s a lighter style on color, let’s give it a sniffy sniff. Very bright nose, I do get some catalogue flavors jumping out of me about right away. Refresh on the nose, kind of like peach fuzz, very mow tie, you know kind of just like vacation comes to mind. Tropical, I guess this one getting tropical, almost like coconut, skimmed coconut milk components on the nose as well. Very intriguing, let’s give it a whirl.
This is very good. Wow! Wow! That really catches me off guard; let me get one more shot. Wow, very peachy, bright acid that’s not over bearing. I get a little bit of a pear component as well, little cantaloupe on the palate as well; great, great acidity, gorgeous balance. It’s a lively wine with brightness, it’s almost got like that you know when you just see like young kids, you know like some of them has that sparkle in their eye and you’re just like you’re going to do good kid, that’s what this has. It has some spiciness as well that I like on the back in here, almost like a radish kind of thing believe it or not. Tasting on a tail end, I actually find this white extremely good. It’s hitting my personal palate perfectly and I’m going for big offset here, little buster Douglas action Matt. This scores wine 91 plus points. I am feeling this wine, it is 12 dollars, it is 91 plus points on, and I’m going there. I’m nodding you know, Matt I’m going to there. I’m not going to hold back, I’m going 91 plus points.
This is spectacular wine; this is what the wine world is all about. I continue to yell and scream that is stuff going on out there and you don’t have to pay 80 bones. You know eight to 15 dollars a bottle can get you great wine. If you fight hard and find it and this Matt and the Vayne nation, all you Vayneiacs out there, bunch of you I saw in the trip. Where you’re black wristbands, that’s hard core, this is the kind of wine that you need to go out and find. It’s very good, it’s from an amazing area in the world that does not given enough attention and it brings serious thunder. A drink amazing by itself, just amazing by itself and with food it’s spectacular.
Give me some squid ink, pasta, give me some fruits and melon, give me you know anything. A light salad, fresh egg, add little egg in there, this is brilliant. You know what, 92 points, 92 points, brilliant! Great job, more wines should taste like this, awesome! Let’s move on next one, I’m sorry. Matt’s rarely blink, I’m just excited. Is it really good?
Matt: Just stop the show.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Did you want to try?
Matt: Okay.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Okay, so ahead get a glass. I mean it’s really good.
Matt: It’s all here.
Gary Vaynerchuk: You know what it is Matt like it’s just so good. It’s balanced, it’s good and I’m tired of like you know giving wines like a 90 because you know where an 89 plus, its 90-point wine. I really like it. The price is stupid in a good way, slight. And I just thing it’s really what made, I like the body, I like it. You like it?
Matt: This would go really good for food.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Right, you like it?
Matt: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: And it’s really frustrating you know like. Yeah it’s good right?
Matt: Very good.
Gary Vaynerchuk: You think your wife will like it?
Matt: Probably not.
Gary Vaynerchuk: No, she’s more - why? Red?
Matt: She’s definitely more Red yeah.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Need to expand her palate Matt.
Matt: Isn’t like I can get her do what I want her to do.
Gary Vaynerchuk: No let’s not get there. Let’s stay out of Matt’s love life. You like it. Nice, oh thumb. Alright, Terlan 2008 Pinot Bianco, 18 US dollars, 90 points wine spectator. Big score, good job our spectators stepping often willing to go there, got to lick that last wine, sniffy sniff. Again color, so you clearly have now in a day two-day period realized Pinot Bianco is going to be a lighter coloring than my Falanghina. Sniffy sniff, I like this varietals you know it’s fresh. This is more like a watermelon you know peel. I always like to use that analogy because it’s such a different thing when it’s to rhyme instead of just take the fruit for the rest of watermelon.
Also very aromatic, great floral flavors coming through, little less aromatic the last wine though. Let’s give it a whirl. Good right flavors, again there’s great spiciness. What kind of spice? I can’t give it to you, I’m upset. It’s not like a, it’s not garlic, almost garlicly. It’s almost garlicly, garlic A. It’s a very intriguing spice that’s coming through; it’s kind of like half cinnamon, half garlic. You know like sweet garlic, it does make any sense but I feel it quite a bit. It’s very intriguing; I really like the characteristics of this wine, great, great, great complexity on these two white wines, which is unheard of often for white wines of this crisp characteristic outside of reasons and convert.
Little cough medicine, just view enjoying this wine. These are complex full provoking wines that are, are farm work interesting and intriguing on the palate. Then let’s say you’re typical New Zealand or your, you know even and make—because it’s just eight layer of sophistication, A novel instead of a text. Well I like that analogy. That’s what’s really kind of going on here. I like this wine and I think it’s a very good effort. And I’m going to score it 90 points as well. I’m going to agree with wine inspectors, some little charisma that you mean have you know at six bucks less a bottle that I love. But this is really, really, really good as well. It’s not like I’m going back to the trimming just to see if maybe I’m not as impressed with it after having the Tolono.
What I can tell you is, I’m enjoying the acid here a little bit more on this effort, and I mean the prior effort until this is a little bit more viscous. So it’s important to know your – I already have my full shot but thank you. With Doug hook around give me full shots. But I like it. Good efforts, a very special show and a really interesting Monday, Tuesday kind of you know like, you know little one-two punch because what we’re establishing here is we got four wines Matt. One is a splinter, right yes, one of yesterday’s was just kind of little disappointing for me.
But there is a healthy debate that needs to start happening about what’s going on in Italian white wines. They’re really interesting to me; I think they’re really good, I think they’re massively under priced when a dollar and Euro go even Steven. They’re going to be even more interesting and people continue to pop down 20, 30, 40 bucks for sub par, over rated, boring efforts. And I’m not going to pick on California chardoneigh. We can have from Australia and lot of Burgundies just you know, different browse.
Definitely some—are you know as much as I love—there’s plenty of 20-dollar for—that are just you know, kind of going through the motions, middle management. And I think that these wines are really interesting and I beg people to start exploring Alto Adige, Compania, and those two places especially. I’m really proud that I get to do this show and talk about wines like this. Both wine are should be very proud of themselves, these are very good efforts. I think Antonio Giuliani was amazing under rated this wine. This is very exciting. I’m going to go 91 plus. I had to Matt. Actually you know I even take away the plus, got to look like its 91; 91, 90, great wines.
