Shalom! So what is Amen? Why do people say it? What is it mean? Well, most people know that it means that you indicate your endorsement of the words or beliefs that you have just heard. It acknowledges your identification with the prayer or the blessings that somebody who has just said. Actually, the origin is from Rabbi named Haminnah of the Talmud. We taught that the Hebrew language that the letters that make up the word amen Alef mem nun, stand for the expression El’melech ne am’mam,. God or El is the faithful king. So, really was a Jewish Expression where you are endorsing the idea that the Hebrew god is the true faithful God.
But, today, of course it entered many cultures in most languages, you have the word Amen. Now, according to Jewish law it plays a particular role, if you hear another person saying a blessing, it is required to say amen upon its conclusion. This was very important before the printed prayer book was available, because often times, there is only one person who had a block or knew what to say and then you could fulfill your religious responsibility by saying amen.
