Hey everyone, I am Eric Rochow and this is Real World Green, a show about practical green things you can do to reduce your impact on the earth. This one might not be too practical for all of us but its a pretty simple one, Move to the city. Believe it or not, even though cities and really large polluters, per person, living in a city, you have a much smaller carbon footprint than someone living in the country or the suburbs. Now you are thinking why is this, because like New York city, where we are right now, actually creates more carbon emissions than the country of Norway, but taken as a whole, because there are like millions and millions of people here in a very small area, the typical New Yorker puts out, I have it written down here because I got it out of New York magazine, let me read it for you here, da, da, da,dah, "the average American turns out 24.5 metric tons of planet heating pollutants every year, a New Yorker produces 7.1".
Thats pretty amazing, thats at least a third, no three times more, I am really bad at Maths, 24/7, you know what I mean, so in other words, living in the city, we don't drive everywhere, we don't get in our giant car, go to the super market, we take the sub-way places and we walk places. So just by that alone, plus in New York city and I am not only plugging New York, but New York city is just enacted a number of laws that are acquiring new buildings to have a lot more green technology. So, its another plus there. Alright, how was that, was that okay? I don't know. We have been on holiday break, so I am kind of rusty at this, but there you go. Visit the Green house and tell us what you think about that. Do you want to move to New York, do you want to live, move to a big city, do you like your country life? Tell us what you think. Right? Thats it. Make it a great day. I'll see you.
