An Interview with Fashion Blogger Bryan Boy
Bryan: My name is Bryan Boy and I am fashion blogger. I live in the Philippines. I am 23 years old and we are here in New York for fashion week.
My blog originally started as a travel journal. I went to Moscow, Russia for a month and a half. I didn’t know anyone there. I thought “Okay”, I want to go to Russia for a vacation. I want to see the Red Square, the Kremlin. I want to see the snow. So, I made a diary online so that all of my friends back home or my family can read what I'm up to everyday. So, it really just you know growing from there.
When I first started blogging I wouldn’t write about everything, everything that I did, if I gotten drunk, if I get of -- if I do something bad, if I do -- I put everything nothing was private to me before. But you just really have to accept that once you become a blogger, you become a public figure. At least in my case I realize I have readers who are like 13 or 14, so I can't -- I have to play -- I have to be like a good role model to them.
A typical day during fashion week looks like for me you know, I wake up early in the morning and then get myself ready. I start making phone calls, organize my calendar, okay what shows I'm going to be doing throughout the day, go to the shows, so it's like really a mad rush from one show to another show.
So after all of the shows, I got the show rooms if I have the time to see clothes in real life up close.
Cute. Thank you for showing me around I mean it's a great collect. You know I really want to get photos emailed so I can make an entry about it.
I was invited along with you know, some of the biggest blogging superstars like Susie Bubble, the 13-year-old Tabby who’s really amazing and a bash of people from fashionista.com. Yeah, we have this conference by the Independent Fashion Bloggers Organization. And basically we just talk about the state of blogging and unlike with old media, newspapers compete with other newspaper, with blogging there's really no competition. We are all friends online, we always -- we like to discuss whatever blogging trends and yeah it's important to have these relationships.
Susie Bubble: During fashion week when everyone was like -- I think it's most important to be fast and get it on online as soon as possible. I'm like watching TV or something.
Bryan Boy: I'm given up on the whole “Oh, you have to be first mentally” I mean everybody is doing it already, especially considering.
Now as bloggers, it only started about probably about two or three years ago that a lot of the designers were inviting bloggers. But you know, it's not easy when I first -- for me my first fashion week was last year you know, February of last year. I got some designers started to like give me front row seats and then Dolce and Gabbana in Milan, put me on the front row right beside Anna Winter and Suzy Menkes and all these high profile people.
So after that practically everybody, practically everyone gave -- invited me to their shows and give me great seats.
