Hi! I am Erin Collins from Vintages Wines & Spirits in Colorado Springs. We are talking about wine chilling units and how to chill a bottle of wine in a flash.
The best method for chilling a bottle in a hurry if you want to start with the simplest plan is to take a bucket of ice, first we will take the temperature with the Vino temp, before it is chilled 67.5.
Next, we will throw the wine in the cooler with some water. The water is a trick to speed up the method. When we are done with this clip, we will go back and take the temperature and we will show you how quickly that wine cut down to 55 degrees.
We are seeing more and more commercial chilling units going into residential homes as people are wanting the temperature of the wine perfect all the time. People are putting them into kitchens as they redesign their kitchens and they are using them in their sellers.
Wine chilling units range in size from 12 bottles up to hundreds of bottles depending on people’s needs. If it goes in a seller, usually, it is a larger chilling units and cost quite a bit thousands of dollars.
Chilling units are available like this in $150 or less generally and available at home improvement stores.
Many restaurants and fine hotels are using marble chilling units, which they leave in the refrigerator, and then as a diner orders a glass of wine, they bring a chilled bottle and keep it in the marble throughout the meal. Another way to chill wine is with a Vacu Vin product. This little sleeve stays at the freezer all the time and a warm bottle of wine can go into the chiller and chill the bottle in five minutes. That is a great solution.
There is other chillers on the market that are more decorative that previously chilled wine can go into. It maintains the chill but it does not add any coldness to the wine.
Let us just check on this bottle that has been chilling. That, in three minutes and it is down to 45 degrees, ready to drink.
There is one more way to chill wine. Apparently, during the Vietnam War, the soldiers would go down to the beach and completely bury a bottle of wine or beer, pour five gallons of gasoline on it, light it and the burning of the gasoline would weak all the moisture and the evaporation process would super chill the wine.
Now, we do not recommend that since gas prices are so high today.
