Wine Library TV
Gary Vaynerchuk: Hello everybody, welcome to Wine Library TV. I am your host Gary Vatnerchuk and this is my friend is the Thunder Show AKA the internet. Most passionate wine program and you could see here on this lovely Monday is a different scenario. It is nice day, is not it?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, beautiful.
Gary Vaynerchuk: We have a guest Matt has been replace by the lovely Michelle. Not permanently she is off this week and the New York Jets with the huge victory pulled it out yesterday. I was worried about the game have now lifted my expectations. With all the things I saw yesterday. The brown Jags, Colts and Chargers all loosing and obviously we never referee injuries but the likely hood that Tom Brady is out for the year. So, the dynamic of the FC’s is change. It is put in the decent mood. I am offly happy.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Take a little more that decent mood?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Decent, I am going to go whatever. I want you to introduce yourself to the Vatner nation.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: My name is Leif Erik Sundstrom and I met Gary when he was in Portland and I trick him in to having dinner with me. In a restaurant I used to be a someway I am at Look Pigeon and prolong.
Gary Vaynerchuk: He hustle, he hustle 2.0. I was living and he wanted to talk to me about social. Hit me up on email. I answer all my email and he said okay and then I was in the parking lot you run out and --
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I was like well, you got time tonight, why bother me with email since we here right now let just do it.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I respected the hustle.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: And we did it.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Lizzie and I and you and the guy who is driving me around from the brook place.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, office escorts.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes. We went to the restaurant in Grayton. We ate and then Lizzie and I run to the Portland Airport just a nick of time until our flight was delay for two hours.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I did not know that part.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Hey, you know that.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: No.
Gary Vaynerchuk: So, you have been in the wine world. You were very passionate lay for really impress me. I actually recommended him for a job here in East Coast which hopefully things workout and DL. And, obviously that is why I decided when you got here you want to do a little blind ties and chance and I thought it was a good idea but I really want to make it kind a round where in the area we met a place where to be up some expertise.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Sure, full circle.
Gary Vaynerchuk: So, yes like a little full circle and so, we have focus on a four wines for Oregon and so that we are going to do.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Let us get ready to the first one. Chehalem 2006 drive this linger serve. This wine will senate 21 US bones, 90 points wines spectator and let us see what is going on here. A little pour.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Thank you.
Gary Vaynerchuk: You are welcome and one for me and why do not we give it a snippy snips. Do we think about it? I am a big fan of Chehalem which your take onto Chehalem being there.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I like them a lot. So, one of my favorite winery out there I have an – I do not know if you had your six whistling wine makers, fantastic people Harry, Petter Synargry who is the main line maker there. Gentle, sweet guy.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Gentle?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Very gentle, awesome man, awesome.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Gentleman?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Gentleman.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I understand. First thing, that strikes me is a very heavy dose of sugarcane and if you are drinking Mojitos as much as I am you take a little sugar cane inspect them just eat it. I get a lot of that coming from those. I get apple feel, a little pair of lighting through as well.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: So you took the sugarcane and ground up some to it rocking to it too little bit.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Hey, there is a little bit more minerality so we go with that, a little rockiness for the kicks which is a response. I also get a very interesting thing component coming from in those.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Like a green field, like though?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, I do.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, sort of the brighter fix?
Gary Vaynerchuk: I like it.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, I get that too. It was like pineapple coral most a little bit like it is -- smell.
Gary Vaynerchuk: It is extremely aromatic.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes. What so in that the minerality to me than the fruit though it is kind of --.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean the sugarcane is really wrapping to those, I mean that is really kind of taking the number.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: If the sugarcane can be spicy, it might smell like this actually.
Gary Vaynerchuk: No, I think that is a pretty – actually little thing there. Every little there is a little spiciness in there a like. Almost cinnamon –.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: What is the Mexican cinnamon there? There are other kinds, you know what I am talking about, and the bark it is spicier than a regular cinnamon?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Really? I do not know it but then actually it is common.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: What is there none curly cinnamon, the bark cinnamon. Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: All right, let us give it a whirl.
[Demo]
I give it a little attack of pectoral. Just really half of a second though.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: It is like the texture like that when in texture pectoral.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I had really like the back of this is a low alcohol recent 12.6% alcohol so it is not hot in any shape of form. Very acidic on the mid pallet which I like quite a bit. What is on your takes?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I got on my initial flavor components. I got it was like white peaches a little white pepper almost going on there.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I like that white peaches. I agree with you that is really good call, specially those flat ones. You heard the flat peaches?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: The blues cocks the donut peaches?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, those are awesome.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I get a little bit of that. I also get a little bit about – you know it is funny you said spicy, right like pepper?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I was like tasting him like why I am tasting like a curry kind of thing going on like kind of like definitely a spiciness or raisiness. Almost some thing characters as you sometimes see from – the meaner.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Right.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Coming through.
[Demo]
I get the steeliness which I like quite a bit. Almost like on your wrestling in a steel cage match and the guy takes you and slam you and you have your mouth open because I got steel bark component coming through in my mouth.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: In the structure, bold enough to be that same thing right there in the center of pallet, it is really nice and the finish is an incredibly long but it is good because it is the same as being hot.
Gary Vaynerchuk: As a sum and you are doing a lot of wine restaurant stuff in your career, I mean this is just like a dream come true wine.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Well, I mean you do not see many of reason coming out on Northwest yet but there are quite like this as far as minerality components and dryness.
Gary Vaynerchuk: And clearly the ability to pair this with so many food, right. I mean flexibility is a massive on this. Actually normal for this thing you got the whole time give me some white beans. You know the big white beans?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I think it is like the corona beans?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, I love that. I mean --
Leif Erik Sundstrom: And let some lemons as on that?
Gary Vaynerchuk: I think spectators did a good job on this, I mean I think this wine rolls in this range. What kind of lemon juice would you escort in your own little world of your mind?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Well, it is always hard not be bias when you drink lots of wine from the region and comparing to the rest of the region I go closer to 91.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: 91 plus points.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean to me this rule is very deep, very strong good reason. 21 bonus, I mean I could talk about screen value city, I mean a lot about sensation and you know German and Austrian reasons that are going to really rocket 21 bonus steel even with the Euro doc commercial. So this is pricey in the scheme of things but that does not underline the fact this from tremendous quality stand point and I am really impress with the winery rule. I am going to agree with the wine specter to write down the line. The things of 90 point reason and I think theirs a lot of people specially if you want to go USA, USA support some home town reason with a lot of times I am agree with you there are still a lot of snap there are some stuff I am seeing from Europe. This is really one the better average I come across.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes. And perhaps if I did not know what a nice guy here he was I would probably good on running points as well buddy.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, you will get one point of extra.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, exactly.
Gary Vaynerchuk: All right, let us get a little rims let us move on.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Sure.
[Demo]
Gary Vaynerchuk: Let us see what is going on here. We are now going. Tell us a little bit about this one you got.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: You know I never heard of this wine before until the other day.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Montebruno, just the other day. Montebruno, Pinot Blanc 2007 from Philmont.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Philmont, yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Have you been there?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, but there are not whole lot going on there.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I like go to Salmon Safe.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, that is an official --.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That is a good job from Willamette Valley. 13% alcohol there, 2007 -- not rated, 14 bones.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Well, I was told there is only 50 cases of this produce.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Is that true?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I went to a wine shop because I saw there where tasting the Oregon wine and they where tasting this wine. I never heard of it before and I did not taste it but the woman said who only makes 50 cases of this wine and far a little bit more this peanut so.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean that is pretty impressive if we have it here.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I think he must live part time in New York or something.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I have a weird feeling that might not be true. I am sure so that we have lay at.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Not even two barrels?
Gary Vaynerchuk: All right, let give us on a piece net.
[Demo]
So did you taste this there?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: No, I taste it that give diverts in the people
Gary Vaynerchuk: I know. Interesting those, I mean I am getting a lot of alcohol in those.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes. And like some fig medicinal kind of thing like a --
Gary Vaynerchuk: 30%?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I do not want to say Flintstones Vitamins because that is still has a little fruit component to it.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Like a Tylenol.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, exactly that is the Tylenol.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I think it is fun as a Flintstone. Actually, it does have a little bit about thing going on. There is a little bit of like a kiwi skin thing going on which and do not mix them up with kiwi very different thing.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: It is like a dirty Kiwi.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, I mean let us give it whirl not women knows.
[Demo]
There is a little lemon lime been going on. Little sprite action.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, a very much like a pit of those things is got a bitterness of the pit quite a bit I think.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I am not feeling this. You?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: It is pretty basic. I like a certain amount of bitterness in my wines like a little complain about bitterness but I think when it downs properly it is like great alchemy when you are eating the right foods with it but there has too much of that kind of born bitterness that on.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I love bitterness, I mean actually I prepare it the acid, the bitterness against the character, right. I mean for all the same it would offly boring that is why I left Russia. They want you all this same. Anyway, salad stuff in disregard. It is a wine, it is light, it is crisps, it is clean, I will get that.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: It is not hot.
Gary Vaynerchuk: It is not as hot as I thought it was going to be base on those.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Right.
Gary Vaynerchuk: So, I give it that and I also do not mind the little pair thing going on and it how just fine. It has a little bit of like a red rubber band like rubber bands. If you ever tube rubber bands I get a little bit of that on the metallic transitions it is awful little flavor. Little band-aid action believed it or not and it is weird like that. It is like sticky plastic.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: It might be just a little bit – issue.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I do not think it is a better should though, I really do not. I mean it is not, perhaps you will taste, you know what mean?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I just think it is got a plastic can put, I really do, I think it is like a rubber ball like a pink bouncing rubber ball like a rocket ball.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Like probably if you are that implementing that new rum.
Gary Vaynerchuk: How cool rocket balls by the way. Remember like you played baseball with them and you hit it so far and you go “Yes!”
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I still play rocket ball.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I thought it is kind of felt.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Even though those is a rocket ball with the rocket ball.
Gary Vaynerchuk: No, I want to play rocket ball.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Okay.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I play tennis the other day, I am getting into it again.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Rocket balls is good by yourself.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, I do not like things I can play other times. Anyway, I am going to go down in this wine. I am going to 84 points on this wine giving it a major pass I think people needs to find other things like though.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Maybe you look generous I think.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I might be. We were just talking about the ball. That is the one you saw. Exactly when there is always like a two point curve. Everybody knows a track points this is really an 88 and it is a really 81.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Oh, come on, yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Actually I do not want to batch it though, the 84 is not a harmless score because – listen, it is not horrible --
Leif Erik Sundstrom: No, it is not --.
Gary Vaynerchuk: It is the worst thing I have ever hard, I means worst Pinot Blanc out there. It is just very basic you preferred to that earlier and just not the kind of wine I had really think that is really worth anyone while to go and seek out. I mean ultimately the biggest goal is to try different things, trust your own pallet and if we are going to make some of these splurges $14.00 a year probably 18, 20 anywhere else, I mean I really, really want people to get value and I do not want them to, you know, but then again two pallets. Two in the see of millions and we can be of not justly wrong and you know what taking a look at a little of us we might be. I mean really.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: A bookworm instruct sure for that is the rest.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That is already a problem. All right, let us move on. It is so nice bucket. Wow! This is beautiful.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, really pretty little angle.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Do you know these guys?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: They just kind of busted on the scene and I went to the Indi Wine testing and missed their tables somehow.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Four graceless.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: We have been talking about on Oregon so I am excited to try it.
Gary Vaynerchuk: The black family vineyard. Very cool, gorgeous package. The Four Graces Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley. 89 points Josh Reynolds, 21 US bones, fourgraces.com, 800 numbers so let us pour one here.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Let us taste.
Gary Vaynerchuk: 21 bones.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I have a Danty Hills, I do not know if they are officially an ABA or not that is what they are make a wine so.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Danty Hills is very interesting. I am really enjoying. I really like the colors of this wine by the way.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That is a broad.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: That is true.
Gary Vaynerchuk: 21 bones, it is really true you can see it is got a classic Pinot Noir and coloring to it. Anytime you could see your fingers through it that tells me it is Pinot Noir and that makes me happy. A 21 bones that refer twice in scheme of things as Pinot Noir appraises half sky rocketed kind of like the Jeff of potential in this seasons. Let us give a snippy sniff.
[Demo]
Tight in nose.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Tight, but it is still has a lot of characteristic done this things going on. Just like a still let us add to it sulfur kind of a attract through a little bit.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Just a hair, I saw two coming through, what is it a no six? Those two young wine.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I do get a little bit of cranberry coming through a nose, which I like.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: That mean like wet force there are on there just barely.
Gary Vaynerchuk: A little bit like, everybody get so sad they think a wine is spoiled when it is wet dog but I kind a like the wet for the – which like that dog. What is his name?
Female: Rookie.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Rookie, grown boy? That is a good name.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Well, dog is smells as bad when they are wet as spoiled dogs.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Is that true? I get a lot of scrub Rookie is a great name. You named it?
Female: My brother.
Gary Varynerchuk: Brother that is a good job I have. Like the strawberries coming through in my nose here. I also get a little bacon fat on my nose.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, a little bit of that. I was going to say damp bark early on when you are saying like wet dog it is kind of got like.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I like it, I mean there is just a little bit of like that. Like that you want it just coddle in your bed on the Sunday because raining on Sunday whatever. You might be on vacation. You know like in the forest get away, no internet.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: But it still on that nice little tender to brightness like you said the cranberry in our tooth it is coming about a real of that.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Real fruits there.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: The fruits there. Let us give it a whirl, I mean I like the fact they are really great getting into the nose. Again, if you are just watching for the first time or are just getting on to the scene with the Vayner Nation. I am huge. I am a bouquet, the nose you need to take in more of that. I highly recommend it. I think way too many people underestimate what the bouquet in the nose, the aromatics bring to the table, I think it is a big part of experience to put it in real life terms. I will not go with to the movie theater without checking out the previews. If we get the late--I do not really want to see the main feature. I have to get there early. Lizzie knows we need to get too early. If I missed the previous I am crash speaking which the guy does the boys over just past away.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Really?
Gary Vaynerchuk: They just go awesome guy like an lay up far, far away, like that guy. The guy who is in the cue commercial?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Sucks, just to know. Anyway, yes, regards up to the family. I need it. I need that, the previews were off. Are you big on the previews? Michelle does not care, you?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I like can reviews.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I am huge on the previews.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I am not huge but I do like the previews.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean once the transformers like 40 of us from wine library like every previews. Like, he is going to give me a great one like I get hump. That is kind of what the nose in the bouquet is to me, I mean I have to experience and I have to smell quite a bit. It brings so much more pleasure to my wine drink experience. So many you pop and pour, can we stop that can we please. Once and for all make the nose the of the bouquet a bigger part of the experience.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Speaking which do you get a rusty swayed there in that too.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Not a big, I do not know the rusty swayed as well. I do not really do as much as you get.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: We got be more creative just like he is your --.
Gary Vaynerchuk: No, listen, some people think I am way too creative.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I know.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I am not just made up remember that. Suppose it is old care bears to me though. You get that a little bit a crappy bear. All right, let us give it while.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Maybe a little mile of pony.
[Demo]
Gary Vaynerchuk: What do you think about that?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Look some definite oaken on this wine and a great and nicely though. It is not like, a piece of wood in your mouth but it is supplying a lot of spice to this just kind of a nice.
Gary Vaynerchuk: It soft your -- is the wine you like for you pallet?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I like a lot of different kind of wines especially when it comes coddler like a Pinot.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Well, sure like the brainiacs where in your – what you are drinking pleasure this days?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: This weekend I had a pleasure on drinking on my favorite grapes almost everyday whistling. So that you know a different category. I was getting from Pinot Noir.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Did you go to Terroir?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I did go to Terroir and --
Gary Vaynerchuk: Great born in the city?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, check it out if you are in New York. While the summer whistling still last but as far as Pinot go I am going to ask it head I lean toward the more bright fruit, more elegant settle wine that take you a little bit more time to kind a figure out or you have a the kind of give something to for that to get back. And this one is barely soft, very easy to drink up front but it is got a lot of bold spice in the back in that is kind of – I know I find this like me distracting to be honest with you.
Gary Vaynerchuk: On the other hand, I live in control to chaos. I need to be distracted at every moment and that distraction on a back in is completely up my alley. I really like that back in Asian spice complete chaos on the back that. Tons of fruit bolting in every corner similar to my style, I like it quite a bit. I understand we are going and that is really interesting thing you are breaking it down. From you what kind of wine like where would you score this in your world do you think? Not to score me anything but just try to get?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: 88 this.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Very interesting, I mean so you more close to Josh Reynolds.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I guess so.
Gary Vaynerchuk: To me, this is even better to me, I mean to me this is like a 91 plus Pinot. I have really like the back end of this wine. The part that maybe--
Leif Erik Sundstrom: It misses in its acidity in the mid couch.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I totally agree with you but you know what, I think for me it makes up – so yes let us address that. On the mid pallet, the wine could use a little bit more backbone. I think it has been a pallet, there are flavors there but I think that the acid reference the late was brought is a very yellow point that being said. For me the mid pallet so sure, it is like five minutes of a great movie that you did not like for me, some one like okay I can get over that because the finish the end of the movie was so epic. I am becoming a movie critique at first. Let us just go and live it like but I really, really, really like the break chaos of fruit on the back end. This whole like more berry black raspberries and then you get this spices and peppers, white acacia of flower component, which I normally find it is like white wines. I get a little hint of that. I almost even get like a manner in tangerine kind of thing like it is just interesting, very, very interesting back end fruit.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: There is a kind of typical white flower mix like an orange zest things which kind of comes out of some of that there needles wines but I find that those more interesting in the pallet personally.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Understood. I do not know, for me I am really hot on this. I think this is has long term potential, I think this can become a little bit of a coat wine, little patty green type. Any wine that this expensive in the scheme of things for Pinot that brings this much to the table, I think this worthwhile and so Michelle I may need you to link it up. We have a little website here from them thefourgraces.com I have no idea if they have mailing list we will check at after we tape this. I will send you link a name. Let us link that up because I think that some people watching are should join the main list.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: And I understand I do not just like the one. I like that one.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Oh, no! Listen please, you know what I am thinking is this is their entry one. Do you know if they make that clip once?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I do not like I said I a miss their table.
Gary Vaynerchuk: We will have the check but I have a few only problems make some single been yourself or role eventually and to me anybody they can put a $20.00 Pinot Noir in this market of this quality has some. You know me, I mean to $20.00 Pinot from Oregon right now a bull crop.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Most of them blow, yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Bull crop.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, bull crop, bull crop blowing. Blowing bull crop.
Gary Vaynerchuk: I mean I think that there is a lot of potential here and I think it is something with the maniac sign of --
Leif Erik Sundstrom: For the prices totally worth it give of that.
Gary Vaynerchuk: And ultimately, it does not cause you anything to be on mailing list as if this place blows up.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Sure.
Gary Vaynerchuk: And everybody is looking for it you can always say carries that up.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: And the wines can only get better, right?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: So we hope. Oh mean, this is I was six vintage it is not going to be the best Pinot’s.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That is the good point.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: To do this and there were six right now that is pretty nice and you have this much structure.
Gary Vaynerchuk: We are going to another 06 one that you probably have before because this guys have a lot of play.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I have been have this vintage.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Like you have their wives.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Sure. These guys are pretty hot right now. Let us talk about our good friends at Raptor Ridge 2006 reserved Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, 152 alcohol. Big alcohol, 139 on the last wine. It got a nice little feather on there, 27 acres state, 90 point Josh Reynolds, 1104 cases produce that are a small amount of wine. $31.00 and let see what is going on here. This is definitely a wine originally that has caught a lot of pinch I think we did the reach for me. That is so quick I am, you like that, all right?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: What is to be planning?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, it was like—it is totally the video team where the world maybe. I just found out he was from Chicago before it came to the New York market. Some of their market it is kind of interesting. More on the role because this goes like. Anyway, again you could see your finger through it. Pinot Noir I like that you should do some rubbing put in there.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: And these are both Pinot a little bit hazy like they probably not filtered wines either.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, this one for sure is got a little bit of that cloudiness. Let us give a snippy sniff.
[Demo]
Leif Erik Sundstrom: This is definitely like you tell the difference between ABA’s than the going to chain amount on this.
Gary Vaynerchuk: You like the fruit?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I do like a little bit of poop. It is like a little bit of led pencil kind of element too. It is really bright fruit.
Gary Vaynerchuk: How do you like the poop though?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I like the poop. I sleep with the poop actually.
Gary Vaynerchuk: No, but I mean it is really got that essence of manor little that cowboy ranch Wyoming I just got back from Jackson role.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: It is like a polite cow, checks the dung. This one smells like to me.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Excuse me. Understood. Rose petals?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Definite rose petals, bright rose cherries too.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Poop palms rose petals like you have a whole field roses and the cow comes on and poops on it. That is kind of what I am getting on this one.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: And do you have a cherry juice comes out smell there too.
Gary Vaynerchuk: There are a lot of cherries, a lot of cherries, a lot of strawberries red fruit. This is a cherry, strawberry, raspberry kind of thing going on little manor fertilizer, old world burgundian thing going on and then Rose petals, which is very pretty. This is nice smells.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, this is seems a little bit more harmonious to me than the last one so far.
Gary Vaynerchuk: A little more put together but a little bit more textbook.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Well, yes exactly I guess it is more when you see to where Pinot you might expect this a little more.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Absolutely, let us give this a whirl.
[Demo]
Leif Erik Sundstrom: What that stand for you?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes. Classic, I mean anybody who drink wine and does not peg this in the blank tasting as Pinot Noir and even from Oregon because the brightness there maybe serenade. Held sometimes can we get this kind of fun but usually there are a little darker because a lot of bigger wines been telling out of there a little mixing around with the bridal --
Leif Erik Sundstrom: But this year though it is interesting, I mean the fruit contains that enough of level of alcohol nicely. I guess those feel a little bit but it is contain well and the softness of the power is just as it always those six so soft.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That is the great point. I will be honest with you. I am glad you brought them up, I am glad then you are here. I mean I would not even wrap against the alcohol again. I mean, I do not feel on the pallet of all so great jobs. You know monster Pinot Noir here, there is a little bit more of a new world action. You definitely taste the oaken influence. A heck of a lot more in this wine, I am going to call it Oak Monster but I would definitely call it a little bit more new world than the last wine. Definitely brighter, you get that bacon again.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Right, and there are come caramelize note from there like cherry call up kind of backing at it all up a little bit. What do you think is that oak is forming as well?
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes. If you like oak it is definitely a play here. I mean there is definitely a little bit oak. What is this one on your rose?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Like on this city a little bit stronger that much is it strong. This vintage is so soft and kind of almost sloppy, almost sloppy.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Full strength?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, a lot.
Gary Vaynerchuk: You guys are found it?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That is why you want to move to east coast just like?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes because Saturday was beautiful.
Gary Vaynerchuk: You like that, right?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: No, but I would try publish it about the same category for different reason about 88 plus 89 points.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Yes, so for me this is a little two new worldy, a little bit two oaky. It is funny Josh Reynolds who actually has a lot of similarities to polarize or at least scoring wise, I mean however we get there. I am kind of really in different place. You when 1989, of course the first one it went 90 plus 91 but this one are more like a 87 and 86 plus guys. I am just kind of – I think it is past, I mean there so much Pinot out there for $15.00 to $18.00 to $20.00 even like A to Z has this kind of kept. Do you know what I mean?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: And you know the finish, I might want to take that a pointer so because I am like fire breathing dragon and mostly alcohol is coming out in the finish will strong.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Could you listen, you know, this first time after we just on show I have been a big fan. This is really, this is would sucks than a lot of ways. I probably had three or four Raptor Ridges in the last two years that I had really like and this is probably the first wine that I kind of do not like and it is a tough vintage. So just kind of weird just keep that in mind but interesting show, I mean to me really this were two stands out for me.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, me too.
Gary Vaynerchuk: But for you this was the set?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, absolutely.
Gary Vaynerchuk: No doubt.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: That was a stand out of reds but for different reason than the other wine.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Interesting stuff and you want to leave with any act with anything, any thoughts, any things you want to recap about Oregon anything that maybe some people look and visit any places you recommend that thing, get up restaurant and --.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I would like to give you a shot to Paley’s place and an old classic 13 years and their going there case to be worth for the county Paley there and definitely hit up for Pigeon where we eat phenomenal.
Gary Vaynerchuk: What was that ice cream you have triple ice cream?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: I do not know fowl grow ice cream.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That was absurd.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: For pitter rolls and chocolate caramel and toasted sea salt. I use to work it with some by ice but there is good reason buying it and a great similarity on that on the fourth day and the chef --.
Gary Vaynerchuk: How about couple wine responses where we are not only will have good wine but good people will get really give them a good hug.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, you know, articinal wine sellers, going to be you have to track them down but there are in the August seller facility phenomenal Pinot and pretty good view on the eight to. Look them up. You did Bowdeck or seller on the show recently --
Gary Vaynerchuk: What happen there? What was the scene after we devote that from the show? How did the Bowdeckers there, how did that go because I know you are pretty close from them?
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes, I work for them for a bit and I am still do actually but Veniac’s really came through, I contacted them like mad blew up their email box and help to sell out some wine for them pretty quickly, I mean with them like two plus hours. And they never get heard of this guys until you guys starting emailing them so that was pretty cool.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That it, yes, I mean nobody really should know who I am.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Well, I mean that is on point. The point is there are already blowing up and I do not know why here is behind the scenes sneaking in.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Tell us what is going on.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Yes.
Gary Vaynerchuk: That was good stuff.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: They make great wines.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Anybody who tried any the bowdeckers wines please, live something in the comments about that. Tomorrow seeker packs. Michelle, give me a little just move it over here. You just move the door in – just move it pick up do what ever you are going to do. Just pick up the whole damn thing. Show them this absolutely very good, you got it, the boxes? Beautiful, we will be doing those tomorrow secret pack including one certificate in the secret pack that is a free trip on the Thunder Cruise. So I am excited about that, other than that jets win that is always a good Monday here on the Thunder Show and why do not you ask the question today because I know you are watching up and you should be prepare and I know you should be something. No, little quite of guard. I like it, let him guard.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: Hey, I can handle this.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Go, go, go.
Leif Erik Sundstrom: If you can have it your way, how would you have it? And if the answer is changing that thing that is perfectly acceptable.
Gary Vaynerchuk: Wow that is global, global questions. If you can have it your way how would you have it, so much over reaction stuff? The hell are you talking about. You with a little bit of me and awesome guy like this which sink in the wine world whether they like it or not.
