Born in Los Angeles, California, Angelina Jolie is the daughter of Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand who are both actors. They divorced when she was only two years old and she basically lived with her mother and her brother all her life. She didn’t have much contact with her father.
Before returning to acting, she travelled all through Europe modelling and appeared in music videos of such artists as Meat Loaf and the Rolling Stones but it was in 1993 at the age of 18t hat she started acting in movies such as Hackers and Foxfire.
In 1998, she achieved critical success starring in the TV Film Gia. It is the true story of the super model Gia Carangi in the 80s who died of AIDS. She won her first of three Golden Globes for that role. It was in 1999 that she won Best Supporting Actress for the movie Girl Interrupted where she played a mental patient.
Although at this point she had critical acclaim, it was with the movie Tomb Raider that came out in 2001 that she became an International Super Star.
It was in 2002 of them in the movie Beyond Borders that she learned about third world countries and became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations. She frequently travels to third world countries to drive tension to their problems and in 2005 she was awarded the Global Humanitarian Award.
In 2002, she adopted her first child a boy from Cambodia name Maddox.
In 2005, she adopted her second child a daughter from Ethiopia and in 2006 she just had her first biological child with actor Brad Pitt a girl named Shiloh.
