Anger Management Treatments

Luke: Hi! My name is Luke, I am from Utica, Pennsylvania. And I was wondering, if I was physically abused as a child, do I have a higher risk of needing anger management as an adult?

Nassir Ghaemi: Well, Luke, the fact that you asked the question suggests that you maybe have been experiencing anger problems. And the answer to your question is, yes, if you do have physical abuse or any kind of abuse in childhood, you are at higher risk of both anger and depression and other psychiatric symptoms in adulthood.

Now, that doesn't mean that everybody who is abused in childhood develops severe depression or anger, some people don't for personality reasons, you know they maybe more resilient to trauma but a lot of people do and it sounds like you might and in that case, I think counseling maybe a good idea.
