Well Valentine’s Day might just be the most unproductive work day yet. Not because of the flowers being delivered to your office — your two favorite time-wasters have found love. WNYW explains.
“Angry Bird fans getting a real surprise. The video game landed on Facebook yesterday. And that’s a day earlier than they expected. … this one offers new social components. Whatever that means.”
A Tech blogger for Time Magazine is thankful for those new social aspects.
“If you beat their score, you can ‘brag’ by clicking a button beneath their picture (thank you Rovio for introducing yet another way to badger our virtual compadres!).”
In addition to the new social buttons, the Facebook version of the game has new boosts to help you slay those pigs. KTRK explains.
“There are four different power-up levels including one option to get the pigs by shaking the entire planet earth.”
The Facebook app itself is free to play, but you may need to pay to win.
You get your first power-ups for free, but playing more power-ups will cost you — a dollar for 20 uses. A blogger for ZDNet thinks asking for a few bucks as you play is a better idea than paying one flat rate for the game as a whole.
“This is a smart move on Rovio’s part: instead of charging a one-time fee for the purchase of Angry Birds, the company could potentially make much more money per Facebook user, assuming enough of them are willing to pay for the virtual items in the game.”
The New York Times says the move is all about boosting the game’s already high numbers.
“Although there have been more than 700 million downloads of Angry Birds games on mobile devices, the company’s current focus is to help bolster Rovio’s merchandising strategy, which the company says is the fastest growing part of its overall business.”
It seems like Angry Birds is everywhere from our phones to the store shelves. Maybe a blogger for Washington Post puts it best.
“...what better way to feather the game-maker’s nest of global domination/monetization?”
The Facebook app has been in development for around a year.
