We will go to the top here and we will just type in out “ugg boots”, enter, and we will see. Well that now is down to quite a bit, but it is still pretty high. We have 1, 990,000.
So basically, we have a number of 2,000,000 for your competition, which is very high. But if you keep it around a million or less, you can get in to a good niche situation. A hundreds of thousands is even better, may be 250,000 or a 150,000. That would be excellent numbers for this amount of keyword searches per day.
So, we have ugg boots, but let us just try and tighten that up a little bit better and see what is going on here.
We have ugg boots. We know that a word for a niche because it is right around the 2,000,000 mark, 1,000,000 mark, and it does have a high search per month number.
So that would probably work, but if we were going to use that, let us decide what kind of keywords that we can put in there with that. Now we have an niche, now let us find some keywords.
So, ugg boots is our initial. Let us just type in “ugg boots”, hit search. Okay now, ugg boots has come up here, as you can see. And the top search term under ugg boots is “ugg boots size 8” right here. You see it here on the left hand side, and it has a monthly search of about 1,244 people.
But like I said, there is two parts of this equation. Let us find out what the competition is.
So let us go on over to Google. We will type in “ugg boots size 8” and enter. We will see what is going on. Okay, we have a much better competition bracket, so we only have 238,000 for that key term. See how we are narrowing it down a niche, into getting the right eyeballs to your site.
So, if you are selling ugg boots, you do not want people that are looking for cowboy boots to come to your site because that is not what they are looking for. You want people that are looking for ugg boots to come to your site. Get the right eyeballs to your site because if they are looking for ugg boots, especially ugg boots size 8, and your store is on the first page, they are going to click on you and they are going to buy from you.
But just for curiosity’s sake, let us see what a couple of other keywords would bring us. So, let us go back to our keyword journal. Let us see, we have “cheap ugg boots” here, it is the third on the list and it has 1,241 hits per month, and is just about three in differences from the size 8 key term.
So let us go find out this competition. Type in “cheap ugg boots”, enter—oh boy, see? This number is half of the other number. So your competition is in half, even though the searches are almost identical. There is just about three people difference in the searches, but your competition has been reduced by half.
So you know that your cheap ugg boots is going to be one of your top keywords. Plus, it will help get the right eyeballs to your site.
These are both very good, and another point I want to make out here is we have four key terms that at least a thousand hits per month or better, and that is where you want to stay. And of course, you are going to have a balance between your competition and your key term that is being searched for. But if your thousand hits a day are better, that is good. That will develop good organic traffic to your site and if you can narrow it down to your competition, as below a million, you are going to have a niche, okay?
And that was just real quickly, real easily and straightforward, how you can find a niche market and succeed.
