Hello there YouTubers, I certainly want to be here and today I am bringing you a review of one of my newest toys is the iPod touch 2G, 8GB model. I have on it a griffin case or some kind of not the exact model. I always put cases on my electronics because I don’t want them to break and I have a screen protector on it which is the screen protector actually attracts more scratches to it than the real screen does. The real screen is virtually scratch proof but I want to protect the aluminum back and give it a little more weight because this thing is thin. It is the thinnest iPod I have ever had other than the shuffle but let’s get into it.
Most of you probably already know it’s a touch screen that’s why it is called the iPod Touch, have tons of applications on it. That is the main thing that drove me to buy this in the first place was just the fact that it is not just a street music or video player, you can do the applications, browse the internet, GPS, all that kind of fun stuff. As far as—I’d go over the touch screen with you, this is the best touch screen item I ever owned or even used really. I have the LG Dare which I am going to review here soon, but the LG Dare is my touch screen device and it took some real getting used to. And I don’t know whether is because that I owned a Dare before I bought this or whether touch screen is just that good. But I got it right away like every single touch, like a spot—I don’t have to calibrate or anything and almost like it auto-calibrates to keep up with how your fingers are touching it.
This particular model, what separates the 2G from the first generation is the new contour back which I've heard that some people say it gives a slimmer profile which it does eventhough it about the same thickness. Other people have a theory that they did it so that you will have to buy all new accessories for it like the case. Like a case from the first generation will not fit on the second generation and stuff like that. So, whatever the case might be, I really like the shape of it. It fits really nicely in your hand. So, it has a contour shape, it also has a volume toggle, an analog button that it isn’t touch-sensitive. That is very nice because that is the one of the main complaints a lot of people had about the original was that you had to—if the screen lock went out, you’d have to start it back up, slide it over and then adjust your volume. Now, you can just hit the button on the side whether the screen is locked or not.
And then the third edition to this particular model that they had over the last one is an internal speaker. So, the volume here, a little bit of Guns and Roses, Street of Dreams. That was really out of focus but it has accelerometers inside it, so it looks sensor—and all that. The speaker, it is not very powerful but it’s a really nice feature to have especially with the games. It’s not going to blow your eardrums out, it’s not powerful at all but it is nice to have. The sound actually comes out of the bottom here out of your 30-pin port and then you 8-inch headphone jack, that is where the sound comes out so there is no vent for the speakers, there is no hole openings, so it is understandable that the sound isn’t very, very loud. Up here is your WiFi antenna, this is the way they decided to work it, I think it works pretty well. I don’t have WiFi here at school but at home I have it and it works great, so now I will go over the things that come pre-loaded with it.
You really can't see anything so I will do my best to point to you. This first thing on the top left is Safari. That is your internet browser, next is your calendar, internet mail, E-mail, contact list which I don’t think it is a very useful feature. Because most of us have phones, you put your contact list in your phone, whatever. Next on here is YouTube, you can't run flash animations or flashed based videos on your Safari that why they included the YouTube. The special YouTube option, you got stocks here, monitor stocks, maps get sort of a GPS type thing. And then you have your weather, up to date weather for you wherever you happen to be that requires a WiFi. I have a clock, calculator, notes and then settings and then apps store all way down here.
And those are what come pre-loaded on this. I've added many applications from games to utilities to entertainment, to trivia and all that. This is kind of fun one. It’s called fake call, you can tell the thing to bring up a fake call at any certain time. So say, I have Bruce Willis call me in one minute or something like that. It’s really useless but it’s 99 cents and that was something fun. Most of these applications are free though, paper football right here. Anyway, conversion table, light sabers, magic 8-ball, you can go bowling with the accelerometer you jerk the thing for holding a button and it will that work. Air Hockey, Pacman, a little piano.
Anyway, so as you can see that is just tons of applications, I don’t have any videos on here right now but I had Dark Knight on here earlier. What is nice is that there is lots of programs out there that you can convert to the iTouch format and then putting them – dragging and dropping the file on to your party shuffle on your iTunes. And then loading on here and you can watch any movie you want, I think it is on your computer as long as you convert it to the right format. You can put it on here so you know the boundaries are limitless there, the special Facebook application as well as special My Space, special Twitter, all that. Now, let’s see here. Nothing really. College basketball scores, Mine Sweeper, Sound Grenade, there is just great to do in class when you are just really bored. It drives your teachers insane and they have no clue where it is coming from.
Let’s see a Moon calendar as well as Sun, not really useful but it was free. You never know when you will need it. And these applications take up no space like I've got six pages of applications and they don’t even take up a gig for these six pages. So, really it really does not make a difference in your overall hard drive space. Speaking of which I have 5G on here and then the 1G that is taken up by the applications, leave me 2G for movies, the Dark Knight that I downloaded from iTunes is 1.6G. So, keep that in mind if you are getting the 8G model, you are not going to be able to store a whole lot of movies on here unless you have a program that can reduce the quality for you.
I know that once I had Anchorman on my PSP it was like 500Megs for the whole movie. It was in okay quality but the PSP screen is pretty big so it didn’t appear to be too nice, anyway enough about that. So, I thought find files on this. It was going to be a replacement but it end up being just another iPod format. I had the 20G iPod photo which is the fourth generation iPod. I'm still going to use that as my main iPod probably for in the car and stuff. But I will always have this with me for my random you know waiting for the professor to come to class or in the dentist, the office, to play some games, listen to some music. I have heard that this thing isn’t very—although the screen is durable, the back scratches very, very easily. That is one of the main reason that I got this case. And this promise with this freezing, I used this to leave my 20G iPod out in the car and it had frozen many times and it was able to recover from it after it warmed up. Apparently, these things die in the extreme temperature so keep that in mind. That is one of the reasons why I am not going to get rid of my other iPod.
So that is that, I mean I love this thing. I paid $214.00 for it on Amazon. Always buy your electronics like this from Amazon. Don’t go with eBay because there is so many counterfeits out there and you really have to buy from a trusted seller. So, always go with Amazon with this kind of stuff. So, out of 10, I would definitely give this a 10 out of 10. They could’ve added the camera but I realized that they want to get the people to buy the iPhone and if you got AT&T, you are going to buy the iPhone over this, hands down, so that is my review of it, 10 out of 10. Have a nice night guys.
