Rose: My name is Rose and I am 59 years old. I live in Houston, Texas. My question is are gallstones dangerous if left untreated and if so what can happen? Carla Wolper: Well, gallstones are very common disease, specially among obese people and people who have been on lots of diets and have their weight shift many times and having gallstones isn't dangerous for most people but it can become dangerous if the gallbladder fills up with stones and becomes infected and then people have a great deal of pain and need to have their gallbladder removed.
