Aromatherapy for Stress

Courtney: Hi! I'm Courtney. I'm 27 from Denver, Colorado, and I have a question about aromatherapy, and if there might be something that can help with stress?

Lisa Corbin: Hi Courtney! I am sure glad to hear that you are taking some steps to try to decrease stress in your life. It's something that rampant in our society and the more we learn about decreasing stress, the more we know that it can be helpful for everything from your work activities to your personal relationships, and even impacting your physical health.

Aromatherapy is something that some people have found to be helpful to reduce stress. Lavender is the oil that's most commonly recommended in this area. I don't see it as a standalone stress management technique. I would like for you to do things like exercise, make sure you get good sleep, and take good care of yourself, perhaps consulting a professional if you need to. But aromatherapy can be tried along with these other methods for stress management and should be fairly safe unless you have a history of asthma.
