Anthony Caporale: Welcome to the Art Of The Drink video podcast. My name is Anthony Caporale, and we're lucky to be working again with our September Drinkart Girl Whitney. Alright, so this week opening of NFL, football baby. So football to me means one thing, baseball means beer, football means Bourbon. If you don't believe me, then check out one of my poor Blue Devil Football games and you'll see what they're drinking in the parking lot.
Whitney: They're drinking Bourbon, alright.
Anthony Caporale: So we're going to do a drink that I created, that I call the First Down. It is a Bourbon based drink. We're going to use my favorite Bourbon, the Art Of The Drink select Bourbon Makers Mark out in Loretto, Kentucky, America's only handmade Bourbon Whisky. Alright, so let's go ahead and start it. Okay this is the glass and we're going to fill it all the way up with ice and we're going to start with an ounce-and-a-half of Makers Mark Bourbon Whisky, and then we're going to add a half-ounce of Amaretto. Now, for bartenders out there and people who've watched the podcast, this right there is a godfather, alright? So that's what I use that, the base for this drink.
Now if would go ahead and add fresh lemon juice or sour mix to this drink we would have a drink called Stiletto. What I am going to do is add my favorite juice to use with Bourbon, one that most people don't use which is Cranberry juice. A Bourbon and Cranberry by itself is terrific. I like adding Amaretto gives a little bit more sweetness and a little bit of a nutty flavor.
Now I am going to take a wedge of fresh lime and I am just squeeze it right in and fresh lime just always wakes up the flavor of the drink. I am going to roll this in and out of tin. I am not going to shake this.
Whitney: Just mix it enough, right?
Anthony Caporale: Yeah. I just want to mix it in and out because Cranberry juice is not a pulp juice. It's a drink that I like to serve unshaken so it is nice and clear and you can see the drink and you can see the ice and it's like the presentation a little better, and a straw.
Whitney: We're ready to go.
Anthony Caporale: That is my First Down. I am ready for football season.
Each week our Art Of The Drink video podcast price package will consist of a Makers Mark apron, a copy of my Art Of The Drink volume one bar essentials DVD, and a limited edition version of that special touch of Makers Mark cookbook not available in stores.
Whitney: So I am going to fill this drink up like you just do with ice.
Anthony Caporale: Right. All the way to the top of this.
Whitney: All the way to the top. Now, we're going to start with the Makers.
Anthony Caporale: Alright, ounce-and-a-half of Maker's Mark, and just count to three okay. Alright that's going to give ounce-and-a-half.
Whitney: And then with the Amaretto.
Anthony Caporale: Half ounce which is a one count.
Whitney: I like to make my a little strong and top with the Cranberry, and do the lime first.
Anthony Caporale: You can do the lime after okay, but if you do it this way, it mixes in with the drink and I kind of get the flavor little bit better. It's all rolling in and out of the tin.
Whitney: And straw is all we need.
Anthony Caporale: Ready for some football?
Whitney: I am ready for football, cheers!
Anthony Caporale: Salute.
