Anthony: Welcome to the Art of the Drink video podcast, my name is Anthony Caporale. And our final week together, Rachel.
Rachel: I am going to miss you.
Anthony: Will I see you around?
Rachel: Yes, maybe.
Anthony: Okay so this week, this is drink all in out you all the fans of superman because superman returns is coming out. Yes, so we are going to do a variation on the classic appletini or apple martini that I call the kryptini. Hey, come on it is cool.
Alright, so we are going to start with the martini glass obviously set a martini glass, and this drink because of the martini that is going to be up, lowered to chilled and strained in to martini glass, we are going to build this drink in tin. Let us keep a vise in tin.
And we are going to put two ounces of vanilla vodka, I like to use vanilla vodka.
Rachel: It better be strong.
Anthony: In this, because the vanilla and the apple works both so good like an apple pie. And then, I am going to use one ounce of apple pucker schnapps, and then I am going to shake this. And this is the most important thing about making a martini, I want to emphasize the [Muffled] and if you are making a martini up, shake the martini until the [Muffled] yes, keep following the podcast on what we are talking about here. Make sure to drink it to the right temperature, make sure to drink it A rated, make sure the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
Rachel: Makes or brakes it.
Anthony: Absolutely, when talk about people saying, “oh it that is a well made martini” it could have been better it is usually what the bartender is doing differently. So once nicely chilled, going to go ahead and strain it, into my work to the glass. You are going to see that we are going to come up just a little bit short on that.
Rachel: Perfect.
Anthony: We did that on purpose, because I am going to take cranberry juice now and I am going to run cranberry juice down side very gently, down the side of this drink, so this ends up being a vanilla cranapple martini. And you can see the cranberry juice swirls around and then settles on the bottom, okay, just kind of gives a drink a little cranberry flavor to it and then we are going to garnish it with two cherries.
Rachel: Beautiful.
Anthony: So that is our vanilla cranapple martini or kryptini, you like one?
Rachel: I do. Start with our glass.
Anthony: Yes, and ice cube ice, if you have any trouble getting your martinis to frost, I hear this a lot, generally you are not putting enough ice to the tin, really for a reason for that because ice is really cheap, so hope [Muffled].
Rachel: Yes, free, right?
Anthony: Almost, okay so we are going to do two ounces of vanilla vodka, nice, and then one ounce of apple schnapps. Shake that good, the little thing that rates at those really, really well which is shaking, one hand is on top of the glass, one hand is under the tin. That makes sure that if you take looses out not it is not going to fly all over and hit somebody behind you, that kind of thing. I see people trying to shake with one hand, it is not generally the best way to do it.
Rachel: I have learned from experience.
Anthony: Yes, my best strainers, you got that? Hey I am just asking. Nice.
Rachel: Let us see, if I can do this.
Anthony: Just a little cranberry right down the side, like that.
Rachel: Like from here?
Anthony: Go for it. And you see it will swirl around and then it will sink to the bottom, beautiful, nice. Vanilla cranapple martini, couple of cherries, salute.
Rachel: Salute.
Anthony: Cheers. For more information on the art of making drink, be sure to visit us on the web at artofthedrink.com.
