Artificial Sweeteners and Diets

Male Speaker: One of the controversy about artificial sweeteners, people who are heavy and simply on it, and they are still heavy. Is there any justification to use that artificial sweetener in the non-diabetic that's overweight?

Female Speaker: I am, again, we advocate for a moderate kind of approach. So obviously we are pushing for drinks that like water, like milk, that don't introduce any sugars, artificial or otherwise into these diets. But as a stepping stone, for moving away from regular sodas or juices down towards the healthiest kind of drinks, I think it's okay for kids to use that as a middle step. But I agree with you, all the low fat food crazes that we've had of weight and low fat cookies, low fat ice-cream have not made people loose weight; in fact, they have just contributed to people gain in more weight.
