When asthma attacks are very severe the lungs may be so tight that the medicine that you administer by inhalation doesn’t even reach the lungs. That is a potentially life threatening situation. The ambulance and emergency medical team should be called immediately and the patient should be transported by ambulance to an emergency room without delay. The advantage of calling the ambulance is that there are emergency oxygen and breathing devices on the ambulance. So if the child has further deterioration that can be treated even before they actually get to the emergency room.
