Julia: Hi! My name is Julia Hardman, and I am 20 years old. I suffer from asthma, and my question is are there any precautions that a person with asthma can take, if they want to participate in extreme sports like professional diving? Dr. Robert Wise: Julia, people with asthma can participate in any athletic activity, some even participate in the Olympics. The key thing to keep in mind is that you have to keep your asthma in good control. This may require the use of controller medications, but before doing an activity that might bring on or trigger an asthma attack, make sure to use your rescue inhaler. This is very effective in preventing asthma brought on by exercise.
