Jimmy Robertson: Hi I'm Jimmy Robertson from Morrison Bowmore, we own three distilleries in Scotland. This distillery here, this is all Auchentoshan. This is in the low lands totally unique whisky, the only Scotch whisky that’s triple distilled. The Irish triple distilled, we’re the only ones in Scotland. It’s also unpitted and what we’re findings is more and more people coming in to the malt whisky category, and as they come in they’re a little bit scared maybe some of these smoky creepy whiskies you say is “Ah-ah going to make a big mistake”. So Auchentoshan is actually growing quite well.
Because this is unpitted you don’t get any smoky or any iodine type taste. What you actually get is–now the triple distillation gives you a kind of almost the skin of an orange if you scrape an orange you’ll get the orange zest type notes. You get the orange zest type notes and then because it m matures in a bourbon barrel you actually get this kind of vanilla butterscotch. So when you add these two together it’s a really nice combination, so that’s what you’ll get from the ten year old. You can serve it in a glass on its own, on the rocks or on the rocks with a slice of orange. Really, really nice drink.
What then we’ll do with that one is we then take it and put it back into a sherry barrel for one more year and then another type of sherry for another year, so it’s actually been in three woods that’s where it comes from. It’s got into with the Golf club, everybody thinks it’s a golf club. So nothing to do with the gold club and that one really picks up the kind of the sherry notes, the Demerarra sugar, the raisins, the sultanas and that’s one of the most popular ones. Every show we do we finish this bottles first.
It’s also great with ginger ale fitted on the rocks and then fit it on the splash of ginger ale really nice pair.
Female: You’re recommending mixing it with something else?
Jimmy Robertson: There’s a lot of bullshit about Scotch whisky basically you can drink scotch whisky anyway you want to drink Scotch whisky. The distillery manager of Auchentoshan was there for some like 20 years. His favorite drink was Auchentoshan with coke, and nobody told him he was doing the wrong thing. So really you can drink at any way you like. There’s a few kind of rules in terms of recommendations. You should know that scotch never stick your nose straight in if it’s cask strength it could overpowering. Nose it then fill a splash of water then really pass it under your nose but really otherwise enjoy it anyway you want. So I drink my whiskies quite a few different ways.
So when I’ve got the job at the very beginning I met the Chief Exec and he said, “Have you tried our products?” “I said “Yeah, Bulmer dark is on the rocks.” And he said “Great. Some they like it, that’s the way I like my whisky.” So you drink whisky the way you want it.
Now there’s nothing about, the scotch is like two things, naked women and the whisky, so that’s on TV. Okay, thank you very much.
