Doctor: And they are out there and they certainly arousing it.
Interviewer: There is something called AUT TV.com. A bunch of TV shows. One of them I saw they have special about a crazy therapy in that you can electrodes. And if they do not do right they hit them, almost come back to do people and sneak pitch. They was just showing how brick some therapies are.
Doctor: That would be called the detersive therapies were they use.
Interviewer: You should keep away from autism.
Doctor: Well, yes or no. Obviously, if you have a child with autism I would not go in the route, but there are some very, very, very behavioral disorder individuals like syndrome who are very severely south gurus. And so, I can say never because the research says that for some individuals who are so severely self-gurus that they might not be in other treatment that can save their lives, but for 99.9% with individuals with autism, that is not certainly the treatment. And for young, that is why we get in a young because the problem with autism is if you do not get children when they are young, they would not develop the communication skills and most behavior problem developed because an inability to communicate. I mean you know how frustrating this, if you try to tell somebody something and they do not understand what you are saying. We have the social and language abilities to be able to navigate that.
So you can imagine if you cannot communicate how your quickly and ultimately develop severe behavior problems.
Interviewer: So the basic role always checks with your pediatrician or primary care physician. He should give you advice with comfortable. But if you know gave this a good sources and what whatever we called autism is a developmental think. I mean, we are going to involve by knowledge so one is the kid to follow. We do not know when this is going to end.
Doctor: That is right.
Interviewer: We hope that if you have a knowledge or get out together, it is tremendous string.
Doctor: Yes. The things that I think are most important are that you need to seek professional support and I think parent support groups are great. Meeting with other families who have children with autism so you create a network, do not forget about the siblings. There is great sibling support group. It is tough being sibling of a child with autism because the child autism takes up so much of people’s time. So there is a lot of evidence that if you do not pay enough attention to the typically with helping siblings that you can have problems. So really, they parent support groups, siblings support groups.
If you have concerns about your young child and you are concern about the social relationship and the eye contact and not responding to the name and you have rule out hearing problems, I would really find an autism diagnostic expert whether it is a pediatric neurologist or psychiatrist, who have a lot of experience. Or even a good psychologist, behavior psychologist who has experience in evaluating with diagnosing with children with autism.
Interviewer: It means they have the cure to takes your money red flag.
Doctor: Yes. There is no cure. The only evidence right now of best outcome is ABA and I can tell you the numbers. If a look at 18-month-old and every parent that I meet would say, “How do you think my child will do?” I have no idea. Some kids who come to us with lot of language and very verbal, stay with us for the rest of their lives because their autism just interfere so significantly with their learning. And I have other kids who have come to us with no speech and you think they are going to be with you forever and after year or two they acquires speech and language so quickly that they move on.
So, there it is hard to know what the outcomes where going to be and there are certain no cure.
Interviewer: And do not blame yourself if there is a hope anything.
Doctor: Yes. We are way a pass the days of blaming the moms and dads. At this point, the best action when you find out that your child has autism is action. Get your child into a program. Get yourself into suppo
