Hi, this is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome to part nine of our butterscotch.com ten part series on TextExpander.
Now on this segment, I’m going to talk about eliminating typos or just about eliminating typos through the use of snippets in TextExpander.
So I have included a link in the show notes to go to the snippets page on the TextExpander site or you can download autocorrect group of snippets, the dictionary group of snippets, there are also ones for HTML, CSS, date to date and others. But when you download the autocorrect one, it’s in a zip file, unpack it, I unpack it on my desktop and click here on the plus sign, click on add group from file when it comes up, here’s the file right here, we say open and now, you have a complete set of things that are correctable. This one has about a hundred words in it.
There’s also a dictionary one that I’ve added to this one that has about 240 words in it. So just to give you an example, what happens is if you start to type the word occurred, it automatically sees that I was only going to put one R in it so it puts in the correct spelling or another one is if you’re gong to type “the” and start to type TEH, it corrects it. If you use appearance, this to me is just a great function of TextExpander that not only do I use to insert commonly used text and signatures and so on but it also helps me to make my text look more professional by cleaning up my typos as I type and you can import these files, they’re free and then you can also add to them if there are words that you frequently mistyped, the idea is to type in the way you mistype it and then put the correct version as the snippet.
So the incorrect way is the abbreviation and the correct way is the snippet and we’ll automatically insert as you type. So that’s autocorrecting of your typos in TextExpander and that concludes part nine.
