Dr. Fanaroff was generous enough to sit down and do an interview with the DadLabs. Daddy Clay: And we are in house of Sweden also known as Swedish Embassy in Washington DC, our nations capital, and I am joined here by one of our nations leading Neonatologist. I am very excited about this interview. Dr. Av Fanaroff is in from the Rainbow babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland where he is the Chairman of Pediatrics and we are here to talk a little bit about some of the work that he is done and promote a binding between parents and babies. Dr. Fanaroff thanks a lot for joining me.
Dr. Fanaroff: It is my pleasure.
Daddy Clay: So, talk a little bit about the benefits and the benefits of physical contact early on between parents and babies.
Dr. Fanaroff: It is extremely important, let us say tactile stimulus that is enhancing many aspects it makes the babies come. It enhances the brain growth it is not different to adults.
Daddy Clay: Yes.
Dr. Fanaroff: Adults like to be touch they like to be stroke. Babies like to be touch they like to be stretch.
Daddy Clay: Can I ever hug right here. Well, I feel so much better now. Now, this is important and how we going to get guides, how can we get this dad’s because I think manners sometimes a little hesitant in the first moments, right, to hold the baby.
Dr. Fanaroff: I think that the modern era with a lot of material online with the introduction of fathers into the delivery room. They are encourage to touch and hold the baby right out of the gate and I think that the American Public have not come to recognize that it is very important that to be a father figure and that the father be intimately involved with the baby.
Daddy Clay: In that and a difference can be made just in the first few weeks of life. The amount of time that spent in physical contact. I mean, that really can change what is happening two, five, ten years out, can it?
Dr. Fanaroff: It absolutely can and if we equated that to money there would be ex-financial growth in your investment.
Daddy Clay: Can you-- is it possible that can you hold the baby too much.
Dr. Fanaroff: Parents like that we are spoiling the baby if we are holding too much. Physically no home is going to come from holding them too much go back to the caves. You are holding them all the time otherwise they were extremely vulnerable.
Daddy Clay: And my wife keeps trying to talk to me into moving back into a cave she refer the heat something like that.
Dr. Fanaroff: They make no heat in the cave.
Daddy Clay: Well.
Dr. Fanaroff: No need to get back in the cave into the animal skins and that is environmentally not preferred.
Daddy Clay: So, if you are going to do two things too really important things. It is going to be breast feeding and it is going to be a physical contact in that in that really days of life for the babies.
Dr. Fanaroff: Absolutely if 4:05 that is all you need to know.
Daddy Clay: Now, I am going to be performing an appendectomy right here on Dr. Fanaroff. So, just keep those cameras rolling. I am not really good to test tricky out of my it is totally different procedure much simpler. Thanks a lot that is all for us here from the house of Sweden.
