Hi, this is Nia on RonCineTV, and I am here to talk to you today about the modeling business, but in particular, how to avoid and how to watch out for scams in the modeling business. So it goes like this.
Yes people, when you do get with an agency, they will put up money for you, for pictures, for cars, but in a way that you are still paying, but it's them investing their money into you, because they see you as an entity, as a commodity, that's going to make the money, therefor they invest in you. They pay for you first round of cards. They package you out to clients, putting that card into that, and everything they put into you, after your first job, you are going to get a long list. You are going to get your first paycheck, and it's going to be a long itemized list of all that money that they put up for you.
So yes, either way you do pay, but no, you do not have to go up. If someone says, hey, I think you look great, I think you have an awesome look, pay me $300 and I am going to make you a star. It doesn't work like that. So to avoid scams, usually watch out for people who seem to be like overly eager, and they want you to put down money right away because something has to happen right away. Trust me, even with Giselle, and some of the other top models, they like to tell you that sorry that, they were walking along the street and someone clubbed them off, and then they were made superstar.
More or less, yeah, that is the case, but it does take time. They have to build you up, because no one knows you yet in the business, so that their job is to build you up. So avoid people who seem to be like overly eager and want you to pay money right away. You need to look -- when people give you their card, you need to do a background check, look them up, see what their credentials are, see who they have worked with before. If they don't sound familiar, and in your instinct they don't really sound familiar, and you may not know, but after doing a background check, you haven't heard from them from anyone, and you are kind out there in the business, chances are they are not legit in who they say they are.
Outside of that, those are my main two points of how you should watch out and avoid scams. It's really just the money thing, someone being overly excited, not having the credentials to back up what they say, and just anybody who is trying to prey on you and want you to also do like maybe nude shots right away. Yes, there is nudity, some degree of nudity in modeling, but trust me, it is artistic and it usually is for some kind of shoot or something like that. If someone really liked you, they are not going to say, hey, yeah, you look like a great model, now can you you get naked. I mean, does that sound right to you? If it was outside of the modeling business and someone said that you, would you believe them? No. So a lot of this, in the modeling business, you do have to trust your instincts.
Also, if you are younger, and this is another point I want to bring up, if you are under the age of 18, yes, you definitely need to be taking your parents with you to help you out, I firmly believe in that, because you are going to be a easy target for people to prey on.
Outside of that, keep your head up, stay confident, and keep moving forward. You are watching RonCineTV. Chao.
