Lyle Hurd: My name is Lyle Hurd. I am Publisher and Editor of Total Health magazine. How are you Dr. Kidd?
Dr. Parris Kidd: I'm fine thanks Lyle my good friend.
Lyle Hurd: Yes. Our concept is total health management. Why don't you explain what you mean by total health management?
Dr. Parris Kidd: Well, Lyle, total health management, as you and I worked it out, is really pretty simple. It's that each person does everything they can possibly do to make their health better. They do everything within their power and a little bit extra. They take responsibility for their lives, for their health, and they understand that no body else neither their physician nor society as a whole can make them well unless they choose to be well and make it happen for themselves. So, ultimately it's a issue of personal responsibility and personal empowerment.
Lyle Hurd: This is excerpted from your book PhosphatidylSerine: Nature's Brain Booster and you say avoid all toxic agents. What do you mean by that?
Dr. Parris Kidd: Well, the modern world has a lot of toxins, Lyle. I put them into two categories. One is the toxins that we impose on ourselves through poor lifestyle choices, the most obvious being cigarette smoke and alcohol. Some people get into other drugs of different types, though we should not forget that nicotine and alcohol are the prominent drug addictions in our society. And then there are the external toxins. They are the toxins that are produced in the industrialized society and which, unfortunately, pollute the environment. Toxins such as the heavy metals, especially mercury, but also things like arsenic, cadmium, lead, palladium, many, many others; which do show up in the blood of adults and children. And the organic pollutants, the petroleum byproducts, persistent organic pollutants, the dirty dozen, the things you read about the solvents. So Lyle, we have this wide range of pollutants in the air, in the water, in the soil, even our foods. And total health management means that the individual does the very best that they can to avoid these toxins, to help their family to avoid these toxins. What that means sometimes is becoming active in the community as well. Sometimes even on the national level. For example, the mercury situation is totally out of control. The organic pollutants are found in the blood of every American. There is between 90 and 200 different pollutants that are identified in the blood of the average American and in the breast milk. And so, we have a situation where pollution from outside the body is very, very serious. And that we also have the lifestyle issues. The lifestyle issues are very easy to deal with. The individual has to decide that they want to be healthy; that they want to have a long life; that they want to see their grandchildren.
