Male: Welcome back to At Home. He is back again master plumber and budding comedian, Patrick Donovan with some practical tips on closing up the cottage or the trailer that will ensure that you would not have plumbing surprises.
Patrick: How you plumbing actually looks like inside the wall--
Male: And you say you took this out of your own house.
Patrick: Actually, this is the start of the home that I am building for the little Keebler elves. That is why it is so small.
Male: They love it.
Patrick: Yes, on thing they wanted washing machine facilities and all you have to do is buy and you can go to any hardware store, ask them to give you a snifter valve. The snifter valve is no different from what is on the tire of your car or bicycle. So, and then just adapt two or three quarter inch because that is what this is. Just grab a garden hose or something there and play around five minutes in the hardware store and it will save you—
What you have to do is keep your traps open. I am going to open this one. This is my great invention and I dreamt about this and it really worked out great but it would not here. What I am going to do is I am going to turn this here, and I am going to--
Female: This is going to be an actual demonstrate here.
Male: Yes, I think so.
[Conferring]
Patrick: This is not going to go well. So typically, what you do is just drain off your system right. Okay, and then you have water that drips out through there. If you left this open, I am just going to give this a little shot. Maybe, Mac could you hold that?
Male: Did I get you?
Patrick: Not much, you could try again if you want to. You see there?
Male: Oh, yes.
Patrick: And you keep on doing that until nothing but air comes out of it.
Male: And that is what is happening now. Wow.
Patrick: So there is water that came out of there that should have come out in a perfect world. It was gravity feed and all the water should have escaped. What will happen is the water is still trapped in there in over the course of the winter but it will turn to ice, expand, and you have a problem as in frozen pipes. So being on here a couple of times we got a call from a lady once in Dragonfly Bookstore in Caledonia. And I have a book signing up there in November 15.
Female: Excellent.
Male: All right, have a happy winter.
Patrick: Yes I will.
Male: And hopefully all the plumbing goes well. PatrickDonovanPlumbing.ca
