Brad: Hi! I'm Brad from Boston. I have been seeing a chiropractor for years for my lower back pain. After the visit I feel great for a while, but then it comes back. What causes this, and are there other treatments that I could try that might have longer lasting results? Venu Akuthota: Well Brad, chiropractic can be a great adjunct to treating your back pain. Usually, if you have back pain that's a result of joint injury, and you need the joint to be mobilized, that's where chiropractic probably plays its biggest role. That effect though lasts only 2-3 days. So, I think, it's important that you back that up with an exercise program, whether it's flexibility or strength exercises, something that really allows that joint to get proper function long-term. Your choice of a chiropractor can be hard, but I would ask your friends and your other doctors for that advice.
