Rob: Hey! What's up everyone. Well, Corrine and I are on vacation. We wanted to take you back to the very beginning of the ThreadBanger.
Corinne: So this week we're giving you a rare glimpse of our pilot episode, DIY Fashion.
Music Clip (00:11 to 00:18)
I am Corinne.
Rob: And I am Rob. Welcome to DIY Fashion, the Do It Yourself Fashion Show that allows you to create and recreate the hottest styles at home.
Corinne: Here we are at the hottest recycle clothing store in South Beach, Recycle Blue.
Speaker: This is Recycle Blue. This is my store. Everything we have is second hand. So we're just concentrating on recycling. Everything has got history and energy and every piece of clothing that's been around for that long carries that. It's got its own story and you're just adding on and you drop it off later on. Somebody else will pick it up and add their own story. I think that's pretty cool.
Rob: And hot off the press is we got George. He wrote in "Dear D.I.Y. Fashion, I got an *** load of old shirts. And I was going to, either donate them, or do something cool with them. Any suggestions?"
Corinne: Don't worry George. We have a great friend named, Andrew in LA. He is going to hook you up.
Andrew Hanson: Hi! My name is Andrew Hanson. I am 23 years old and I live in Los Angeles, California. Some of the clients I have designed for are Bert McCracken of The Used, Keith Urban, Alicia Keys. I just recently made two hoodies for Paris Hilton. If you put one of my T-shirts on and walk down the street, you are going to get stopped and noticed. They're going to ask you, and treat you like a rock star. I guarantee it.
So we're here in my own studio and we're going to take this plain, basic, white American apparel tee and turn into a whole new life one. It's all going to be done with a poster-board. Basically, we use the pen. I have our image, I cross which I drew and have already cut out and I am just going to make a pattern up here so we can spray paint it. When I met Bert, he actually wanted the shirt that I had on which is what we're making.
Now we have our crosses traced. Let's cut them out now. We're going to take this basic T-shirt and we're going to dye it with RIT dye. So you want really to brighten the colors blow the crap out of them. Let them sit for a minute, then wash them. If you want it more vintage light, not as much dye and washing immediately.
I have the shirt set up. It's done dyed, being wash and dry. Place your pencil there, where you think you want it. And when you spray paint this, you want to put a really light color on it first, because if you spray too much, it bleeds, pure bizarre. You flip it over and move on right way if you want. The fun part of that DIY is that there are no rules. It's Do It Yourself and when it means do it yourself, it means you're doing it. There's no boss, there's no president, there's nobody telling you. So you can just have fun with it. It's a process and when it's done, it's well worth it.
Speaker: Welcome to Metal Chik.
Andrew Hanson: There's a few things you do and cut it up, really wash it, distress it, hooks and hold in it with a fork. Then I am going to do this all over it and I just let it do its thing. So now that we are done sewing it, when you try it on, you'll definitely see stitches a lot more but we have this beautiful chaos stitch and let's chop up these sleeves. Get a little bit more distress, pull on a little bit and there you have it. That's the wonderful world of the DIY Fashion.
Corinne: Join us next week when we get crazy with the New Orleans Craft Mafia and we show you how to create a bo glove for under 50 bucks.
Rob: And remember, if you have any style, any kind of fashion that you want to feature right here on the show or you have any questions for us, don't hesitate to write us.
Corinne: Yeah and I won't hesitate to kick Rob's *** at the Mitak man, got it corder?
Rob: Yeah. Those were the good old days.
Corinne: Well next week is the Viewer Takeover Week where some of our favorite Threadheads take a world and making the show for themselves.
Rob: Also, if you haven't taken part in our survey yet, make sure you do because it's coming too close and you don't want to miss out on your chance to win some cool cash and prizes.
Corinne: See you all soon.
