Male1: Hey Arnet! Mike Johnson here with Backyard Effects. Nuts! It is my show.
Welcome to Backyard FX. This week we are kicking ass and showing you how to make Beat-up Effects.
[Music playing]
Male1: Here to help me with this week’s project is my buddy Mike. This week we are doing another viewer request sent in by Pat Lex. Pat writes, “Do you remember the episode when the puppets beat the hell out of you, can you make an episode that shows you how to make it look like someone actually beat the hell out of you. By and by, I will personally beat the shit out of anyone that says you, B-effects or even Indy Mogul sucks or is dumb. Please put this on B-effects and then about thirty seven exclamation marks.”
Male2: I did not realize that your fans are so dedicated.
Male1: Oh, you have no idea. Soon I will have an entire army of awesome BFX viewers with enough low budget special effects to take over this world. [Laughing]
Male2: Go ahead and spin the wheel now.

Male1: There are a lot of ways to getting beat-up. You can get punched, kicked, cut, hit in the ear drum with a big piece of cheese. but for our purposes we are going to focus on the classics: Black eye, bruises, and missing teeth.
Male2: “Is it true you changed your name to channel?”
Male1: Yes, Channel is my first name but everyone goes by last name Fred or Fredirator and actually, I squinted at my I-pod so much just so that I can get these glasses to kind a look like Fred with the glasses.

Male1: Now, here are the four main items that you are going to need to complete this project. First, soft nose putty, tooth black out, this is the waxy kind but also comes in a paint dawn format, spirit gum you should always have some of this around for any of your Halloween or movie making needs and lastly and probably most importantly is a good multi-color make-up kit. Now, this is a five-color kit that I use for pretty much all my effects. So you want to pick one of this up. This is a bunch of flesh tones and some different reds. You should be able to find these items at any decent costume shop or you can go online.
Super time lapse!
Now, what I did first is make this crudely shaped swollen eye out of the soft nose putty and attach to his eye with spirit gum. To create bruises and black eyes, start with the base layer of yellow and then move into dark purples and reds. The black out wax goes right over your actor’s teeth and it never hurts to add a little bit of fake blood.
The first time you saw the beat-up effect it looked like this:

Well, here is our second attempt to getting beat-up on this weeks test film.
Now I am here behind Dunkin Donuts where I caught up with Nate Magurkly, self proclaimed female enthusiast. Apparently, Nate was accosted by a group of feminist. We would stop at the local Donut chain to get a pre rally breakfast. Mr. Magurkly can you tell us what sparked the incident.
Male3: You know really, I have no idea. I found the attack was completely unprovoked. I was sitting there minding my own business, eating a doughnut with a hole on it so I could look through and see there finely shaped asses. When out of nowhere they start yelling and hitting me.
Male1: Can you tell me how many women were involved in the attack?
Male2: Yes, I would say at least ten to twelve thousand.
Male1: Well, our sources put it at three women involved.
Male2 Right, well, the Main Stream media has a well known “a liberal bias.”
Male1: Indeed we do. I am Jim Jenkins reporting live from behind the Dunkin Donuts down town.
Now you may have noticed that we are doing a lot more user submitted shows lately.
Male2: “Why is that Eric?”
Male1: Because you have sending in so many great requests, but we want more. He is greedy for your idea. Send in your project ideas to comments at http://www.indymogul.com
Try using some color correction on your next video. You might be surprised how professional it could look.

Male3: Dave from Dumont, New Jersey, apparently the hilt of one of the swords is a little slippery, luckily enough it was a wooden sword.
Male4: I made a hovercraft and my friends and I thought it would be fun. We checked the video later the helm was actually; when it left my head, it was going at 88 miles an hour. If I strapped into myself into the helmet I would be like dead now. After that I get health insurance.
Male5: This is Michael from [inaudible] and not everyone managed to jump over it but in it, so at the end we had a whole army of dirty poachers.
Male6: As I was running, I did not see the rebar.
Female1: I did not know there was broken light bulb in one of the lamps and I ran my finger over it.
Female2: He is holding a camera, duct taped to his hand. He goes over the jump, but right before he does it he says: I do not know why I am doing this.
Male7: I am Kevin from Connecticut then he had seen with the bike in front camera to ghost ride it.
Male8: I stepped in some dark pool but I did not see what is there. Did not really physically hurt me, but it hurt me emotionally a lot.
