Now many times I have told you about the wonders of the clamp light. It is cheap and with a broad spectrum bulb that you can get really nice color. But sometimes you need more power and more options. So we are going to show you how to make a sweet fluorescent lighting rig. When we are done there will be just keno flow lights, except $900.00 cheaper.

With $40.00 we can build one complete light set up with telescoping stand, fixture, bulbs, barn doors and Indy Mogul stickers.

Two gallon plastic bucket, six foot telescoping painters’ pole, 140 pound bag of concrete, three quarter inch pipe T and stopper, four foot jewel work light fixture and two, four foot soft white bulbs.

Start by putting your light fixture together. This is easy, even if you have to install your own plug like we did. Next, build your barn doors. Reuse the box to light fixture came on in, and cut it in to two long strips. For structural support, tape on a wooden dowel or stir stick. Then cover the rest of the flap and tape. Build the second one of these and then tape one to each side of the light fixture. Bingo, you just made barn doors.
To help them stay open or closed tape some 12 gauge wire to both ends. Now, they bend like Gumby. Now you can spray the inside of the barn doors and the fixture silver. For your light stand, simply fill your bucket with concrete mix then insert ten inch length of PVC pipe in to the wet concrete. When it dries, you have a sturdy portable stand. You are telescoping painters poke slip right in to.
The next step is to add a three-fourths inch T joint to the back side of your fixture. Drill four holes, then you zip tie to secure the T joint in place. Add a cap to one of your T joint, now you can mount your light vertically or horizontally. The last step is to simply insert the bulbs of your choice seems start filming.
Now, if you do not have the $43.00, you can always use the clamp lights on this cheap stands or you could use an old broom pole, instead of the telescoping painter’s pole. Or you can just sell a friends kidney.
