Eric: These are my parents. So we are in my parent's house in St. Louis, and we are going to do a couple of shows here, but I just wanted to show you a little bit of slice of where Eric all came from and who made him who he is today. So you can thank them for all the wisdom.
We are going to make brownies. So my mom makes these really great brownies that I like, and I got my dad to come out of his office for a minute to say hello. So we are going to cook.
Female Speaker: Okay.
Male Speaker: Great!
Eric: And then we will make fun of you later. Alright. Cool! Alright. Here we go!
So this recipe is from The McCall's Cook Book, which I remember. This is the first cook book I cooked food out of as I child. I remember I made fried chicken.
Female Speaker: That's right.
Eric: And some other stuff.
Female Speaker: Yeah, you did.
Eric: And this is how I began reading cook books; that sounds kind of girlie, but I read cook books. And my name is Eric.
Female Speaker: We are going to make the butter and the chocolate melt together.
Eric: Alright!
Female Speaker: I am going to put it in the microwave, and the microwave is in the garage.
Eric: So my parents are renovating their kitchen; actually my brother is renovating it, and there is still a piece missing, it's where the microwave goes. So the microwave is out in the garage, so we have to go out in the garage to use the microwave.
Female Speaker: Yeah.
Female Speaker: Here we go.
Eric: I will go do that. This is outdoor cooking in a new extreme here. So let's just open up.
Female Speaker: Oh my gosh!
Eric: What did you leave in there?
Male Speaker: That's not mine.
Female Speaker: Yes, it is.
Female Speaker: Is it hot? Steamy. That's what we want it to look like?
Female Speaker: Yeah.
Eric: We want the squares to be like that.
Female Speaker: Yeah, they could be like that.
Female Speaker: Good job. That's biscuit.
Female Speaker: So you just let it sit here for a little while.
Eric: So that's the top.
Female Speaker: What kind of nuts are those Eric?
Eric: They are walnuts. It's the only thing you put. You are not allowed to put any other nuts in brownies.
Female Speaker: Perfect!
Eric: These bowls have been around forever, because I remember these bowls as a kid.
Female Speaker: Yeah.
Eric: Blue.
Female Speaker: Yeah.
Eric: You probably have these on Antiques Roadshow.
Female Speaker: Probably.
Eric: So you get any Eric's anecdotes or Eric's stories you want to tell to the world, that I won't edit out?
Female Speaker: My Eric was a good kid when he was little. He was very, very sweet.
Eric: This?
Female Speaker: Yeah, that does that.
Eric: They save their eggshells in the fridge.
Female Speaker: That's urine food?
Eric: And then when they are done they grind them up, and they put them out in the garden. That's very green.
Female Speaker: We are adding the baking powder. Four of them I need.
Eric: Four eggs?
Female Speaker: Yeah.
Eric: You said one.
Female Speaker: I did, I know.
Eric: Now we have got to save the shells for you know who over there.
So you preheat the oven?
Female Speaker: Yes, preheat the oven to 350 please. And now we are going to put in the chocolate mixture.
Eric: So the chocolate and the butter are melted in that bowl.
Female Speaker: Yup, they have.
Eric: So you don't have any embarrassing stories about Eric.
Female Speaker: Really embarrassing, no, I really can't say that I do.
Eric: That's good. I will give you that $20 later.
Female Speaker: I have some pictures that I go through every once in a while and I see pictures of you, and you look so cute in your little outfit.
Eric: And now I just wear Carhartts.
Female Speaker: I know. Well, what can I say?
Eric: I like this where you keep the price tag.
Female Speaker: I even had it in the dishwasher. I wasn't sure I was going to keep it. Put this in, and you want to give me the nuts please.
Eric: Is it good?
Female Speaker: He says who is coming? I said Aunt Lynn and Uncle Eric. I tried to teach him cool Eric, but that didn't work so well.
Eric: Cool Eric, I like being called cool Eric.
Female Speaker: I know, I told them.
Eric: Okay. Well, not the work I am in. Alright. Cool! So we let them bake. You want to put them together?
So while the brownies are cooking I wanted to show you where it all began. This is dad's workshop, and this is like the fourth or fifth version of the workshop.
Male Speaker: Yes.
Eric: So if you ever wonder where it all began, is we basically had a workshop, and I got to play and learn stuff in the workshop. There's some stuff here that I remember that's still here. This is beautiful. I love the magnet thing. You need a screwdriver, it's just right here.
And then I like this, this is kind of typical as well, we have an extension cord that is missing one end. So is there a story behind this?
Male Speaker: I found that somewhere.
Female Speaker: That's so much like Eric.
Eric: We could fix this. We could put an end down here, and it's a perfectly good thing, it's very green.
Female Speaker: Wow! They look like they are done.
Eric: What about Neil dining in this house?
Female Speaker: Well, we like Neil.
Eric: Okay.
Female Speaker: Can you sit, can you sit? Gracie.
Female Speaker: Who makes them the best?
Eric: I love it.
Female Speaker: These are good mom. Tonight you left the chocolate cool,
after you did it with the boiler. You know what?
Eric: We used a microwave. Alright. So this is Greenhouse, tell us your brownie stories. Send us emails, tell your friends. Thanks for watching my family today.
Male Speaker: Bye now.
Eric: Alright. See you later.
