Hi! I am Rich Hogan, from the Whitetail Golf Resort, in today's we are going to teach you how to properly swing the golf club. In this clip, we are going to deal with the ball position, in relationship to different clubs, that you are going to choose. I like to promote the golf ball being in the center of the stance. Majority of the clubs that you are going to hit, you are going to keep the ball on the center of the stance. We are going to find the ball, on the center, we are going to separate our feet, keeping the ball on the middle. And 90% of the clubs that you are going to hit, you are going to hit from the length of three different golf balls.
Never want to see the golf ball back in the stance, other than may be your especially shaft, where I may need to keep the ball lower going into the wind. But on a standard shaft, we are going to keep the shaft on the center of the stance and we are going to move it forward depending on the length of the golf club, that we are going to use.
So here you can see, I have got a 5 Iron. I am going to play the 5 Iron somewhere, in the middle half of this first ball and as I graduate to a longer golf club. I am going to move the ball more forward in a stance. Like my driver, I am going to keep the ball a little bit more off my left heel. The ball is going to be a little bit more forward, it's going to take a little bit longer getting through the shot. With a 5 Iron, I am going to keep the ball somewhere in this position may be, a pitching wedge, may be a little bit further back, but from the pitching wedge to the driver, I am going to keep the ball only in the length of three golf balls.
Ball position is very important, because of the length of the golf swing. If we take the golf club back, or if we move the ball back in our stance, we are going to get to the ball little bit too early, we are going to also hit it on a descending motion. Whereas keeping the ball on the center portion of the stance we are going to be able to swing through the golf ball, and drive the club, and the ball down the target line instead of sticking the club in the ground. The old school was that for each golf club that you used, you move the ball back in your stance and hit it with a more descending motion.
Finding players today hitting the ball a lot further, because they are taking the ball from the center of the stance, forward and they are driving through the ball, rather then swinging down at the golf ball.
Next thing we are going to work on is our pre-swing routine, reviewing the grip, the stance, and the set up.
