Straight Jacket Drill
Okay let’s see what’s a straight jacket drill, feet shoulder width apart same thing that’s without pivots but we’re going to get some help out of our elbows. The big thing about the straight jacket is to keep everything inside so that your pivots are clean. So we’re going to load, stride and pivot and then we’ll reset. Load, stride, pivot good let’s do it again. Reset, load, stride, pivot notice the back foot just rolls up. Just not spin up. The elbows stay over the gaps. We stay in a stacked position. We don’t get caught leaning forward and back. When that front heel goes down we put our weight on it so that we get a clean pivot. So this is the straight jacket drill.
The knocking knuckles always facing the direction of the pitch that is why we have the knocking knuckles marked whether the pitch is high or low the top hand will always be under the bat, at the bottom hand over the bat. Knocking knuckles facing in the direction of the pitch and so the idea of contact always places the hands in front of the body knocking knuckles forward. As we take and walk through a lot of stroke our hips will lead and then our hands will follow, top hand facing up bottom hand facing down.
Okay here’s the power hand drill and the way that we step this up in association with the mat is that we’re going to bring our power hand, our top hand to the wrist of the hand that holds the bat. Now basically what we’re going to do is we’re going to get that front hand out of there so that it doesn’t spoke or bar or mess up the stroke so we’re going to pus that hand out and as we stick the mat in the stroke so the power hand drill all of the hitting is going to come out of the power hand but all of the bat holding will come out of the lead hand.
So here we go we’ll load, and we do a series of power hand drills and the reason and the objective of this drill is to get that front hand out of there to get it on its way to the ball. Remember the front hand is a pull hand and so we don’t want it pushing the bat back and spoke up our lightest position.
