The final myth we are talking about as I often hear on little league diamonds is charge the ball. And I do say attack the ball, but I do not want to say charge the ball because a lot of times, kids think, that means I have to run through the ball, and I do not want then running through the ball, I want them to be moving, so when I say attack, I think if you attack the ball, you are always coming forward, you are never going back and the old cliché is once the fielder gets into a position like this, if he is not attacking, he suddenly stops and the ball is not there yet, the first movement is back on the heels, and that is a bad thing, that is the worse thing that can happen to a fielder.
So when they say charge the ball, it is not necessarily going right after to the ball. I want my infielders to read the ball before they charge. Get a read on the ball where you think you are going to be able to pick it, because you have a line of intersection. The ball is hit; you have to got figure out where on that line you want to intersect the ball to throw at the first, whether it is here, or whether it is here. But you do not necessarily just want to charge the ball, you want to read it first and make your decision on when you are going to pick the ball.
