Welcome to another CnP systems quick tip session where we talk about general computer maintenance, repair, trouble shooting and security related issues. Today, we are going to focus on maintenance, three programs in particular.
The first one, down on download.com it’s free as are the other two is glary utilities. When you first install the program, you may come upon this module screen here. It shows you the different tools that are available within glary. However, our main concern today is the one click maintenance screen.
Temporary files, tracks eraser, we want to get rid of those, the other four I am not too concerned about today. Daily basis though if you want to take care of these, we do need to select the tracks you want to erase. Go into this screen, you can see that there is a big list of things, leave the boxes unchecked of things you do want to save. In this case, I want to save my passwords to Firefox, everything else I am not too concerned about.
Once I have selected those boxes, hit OK, hit scan for issues and it will show me all the files on my computer that it recommends being removed. These are files from Windows that are temporary, temporary files from the internet, trash items—there in my trash bin and then other files that websites have left on my computer. I don’t want those on here anymore, so I am going go ahead and hit the repair problems button, it cleans them up, that’s it for glary.
Why do I want to do all this stuff? Well when you clean up your computer and get all these temporary files up. Then it just helps things run more efficiently, if you got a bunch of stuff on there that’s unnecessary, it’s going to bug down your system and processor if going to have to run through more data. And it’s just going to slow things down, CCleaner, again download.com fee as well.
Similar to glary, some people like this program quite a bit. It’s a good one, advanced options allows you to choose the selection of close program after cleaning. I particularly like that function. There are other tools and registry cleaner like glary but we are going to focus on the cleaner. Applications and windows we are going to clean all this items off.
Let’s say you are in Office 2007 and you opened up a file, that file name is going to be saved in a temporary list. So you can quickly open it later on, if you are done for the day and you want to just get those off there. Go ahead and leave that box checked and then run cleaner that is going to clean all that stuff off. Same as glary, I just want to get that stuff off the computer and keep it clean.
Run a little bit more quickly on this case because we ran glary beforehand. Third and final program for the day is Auslogics Disk Defrag. Windows has a defragmenting program built in, what they do is take the data that you have used and spread around the different areas of your hard drive. That is spinning in a circle and so therefore it’s going to be in different areas. We’re take out all that data get it back into order so the computer can find it more efficiently and speed things up.
Got different drives here on my computer, you can see four different ones, we got three on the computer itself. One external one, go ahead and defragment like doc partition, select that drive and hit next. Begins to run, you can see it is going through quickly, final result. Not much fragmentation because I run it before, all we have to do is let it run through its course. Don’t worry about this area, hit finish and you’re done with that.
I recommend that you run that at least once a week. If you any other questions? Feel free to contact us help@cnpsys.com or for more information visit our website cnpsys.com thanks for watching.
