This is how Jews should talk to one another, basic greetings. On Shabbat, you could say Shabbat Shalom or good Shabbis. The Shabbis is more Yiddish, Shabbat Shalom or good Shabbis.
On Saturday night, after Havdalah service when you say goodbye to Shabbat you will say shavua tov or a Gut Vach. Shavua tov is good week in Hebrew, Gut Vach is good week in Yiddish.
For general holiday, you will say Gut Yontiff in Yiddish which means happy holiday, Gut Yontiff, or in Hebrew Chag Sameach. On Rosh Hashanah, you will say Shana Tovah, have a good year or Shana Tova u’Metuka have a good and sweet year. If you say, may you be inscribed in the book of life or a good year or a “gut yor” in Yiddish.
Now, between, Rosh Hashanah and Yungkee Por, say G’mar Hatima Tova or G’mar tov, may you be inscribed in the book of life. Somkha, have an easy fest. You may say Rosh Hashanah tovah tikatevu bethakah teimo, that is long, may you be written and seal in the book of life. Now on holy Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot, you say Mo'adim LeSimcha and the response to that is hagim usmanim lisaso, may your holiday be a happy one.
Daily greetings and also this is in a Hebrew tape, boker tov, good morning, erev tov, good evening, laila tov, good night. That is boker tov, erev tov, laila tov. Lehitra’ot, see you later and shalom, hello, goodbye, and be at peace.
Usually in relkiprida you did not say much to each other because it is such a summer day. Do not tell people Rosh Hoshanah tovah tikatevu after Rosh Hashanah. It is kind of implied there that they did not get a good judgment.
If you get caught in the Torah and have allelia, somebody will save you yasher koach, may your strength increase. Whenever they mumble you yasher koach say baruch T’hiyeh, may the blessed come upon you.
And then finally, when somebody dies, you say to the mourners HaMakom, Y’nachem, etkhem, b’tokh sh’ar., Avaylay, Tzion vee Y’rushalayim or you can just simply say HaMakom, Y’nachem. It means may God comfort you and then those who mourn in Zion and Jerusalem.
