Basics of Quilting

Hi, I’m Barbara Black and I’m a professional quilt maker and teacher. Today I’m going to show you how to make a quilt. We’re going to show you how make the basics of the blocks and I‘m going to show you how to create the units that you’re go into making the black and a little assemble the back. We’ll assemble the black then we’ll add borders, talk a little bit basting and I’ll show you basic machine quilting and how do apply a finish binding. We’re going to use they ate some tools. You’ll need a whiter color which is a rolling razor blade and a roll valuable tool you need two rulers a long ruler for cutting a long strips of fabric and a small ruler for cutting, helping to keep the grain straight and cutting the squares from the long strips.

We will emphasize accurate cutting, accurate selling and safety. Especially using the rotary cutter which is a rolling razor blade. Before we get started I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I’ve been teaching making for 20 years, I’ve thought while over 500 beginning students and I have many advance students over the years and I enjoy helping people on how to make a quilt. I’ve been honored to have one of my quilts on the best of show designation by two nationally rank judges that we had judging a quilt show and I’ve had several quotes published in national quilting magazine including the calls quilting and other quilt making publications and now it’s time to learn how to make a block.
