Casey Bass: Today on Club House Gas, we’ve got Whitefield Academy coach Eddie James. So he is going to be here working on just a little bit more advanced techniques for playing that on the paint. It’s tough in the paint basketball, right here today on Club House Gas.
Eddie James: My name is Eddie James, just a few things in which you could do to get your kids ready and prepared for the upcoming basketball season. This Josh Clives and Connor back in here and we’re working on the jump stop right now. The jump stop over lay up with the purpose of flowing down and gearing ourselves down to make a lay up with the finisher play, when you attack in the basket. That’s what we’re working on, jump stop. Let’s go.
[Demonstration]
Now we jump stop to show ball. Now when we jump stop to show ball, is defense the defender there, then our attention is to show them the ball to make them react and to get the end one fire. Let’s go.
[Demonstration]
Here’s what we’re talking about. If we’re here, you want to sell them among their face, once you sell them on their face, there’s an opportunity than not to get the end one, by making a contact and put it up.
On the elbow, this is what my elbows go and now I’m up with the lay. But if you’re here, so you see now I was like—do you see where you are now, and I never get it up, but if I come here, that come in. You see where you are now, I got that elbow on your chest, so see that separates you, so you will not go into and I get it on. You’ve got to get the elbows out.
[Demonstration]
Now we go over rebounding. We want to grab the defense of rebound. Always attack of defense of rebound with two hands, so when it goes up, two hands elbows out, you turn and 0315 looking for the out 0316. Put it on the glare, just go get it. Let’s go, put it on the glare. Go get it. Stop. Where was the two hands that’s here, go get, I’m going to go and get, your elbows out, snatch, then go get. Elbows out on the go get.
Now we’ll go partners on this. One is on defense, one is on offense, I want you to block him out first and then you go to glance both hands, snatch it and go get it with elbows out, turn and pivot.
[Demonstration]
Now we’re going to work through our pause progression move which generally is fitting down on the block, holding the block hard as well as catching the ball and making a— We have no defense. I just want someone to post that and go through, what we want is a goal post loop, we want shoulders, two hands and two shoulders, two feet pointing at the pass always, because it’s almost impossible to receive a pass other than to be two feet, two hands, two shoulders everything two, okay. Anytime that we receive the ball with one hand in the post.
[Demonstration]
You have to adjust your angle now. You have to adjust your angle based on where the pass is. Now we will have to work on taking charge. That’s one of the toughest things to do in basketball, is when you have to take it tough. But we believe in being tough, that’s a part of basketball. So what we want to do is I want you to drive, when you anticipate him driving, I want you go move over and get ready to position yourself to take a tough. The way in which we brace ourselves on the chart, we’re like to fall on our hands and laying on our butt, that way it cause you to blow. It’s very difficult to fall and not hurt your wrists if you don’t use your butt to break the fall. So we are taking the challenge, it’s three quarters lap, all right.
[Demonstration]
Good job.
Casey Bass: All right Coach James thank you so much. Really appreciate it. That ‘s a couple of things you can do with your guys with your girls to get them ready for the upcoming season and make them tougher down in the paint. Okay that’s what he could do for us today, we’ll see you right back here tomorrow on Club House Gas.
