There is this heavy ball. Mike, who wants to grab that heavy ball for a second, because some of the other things that we have been able to use, this ball, it does not bounce out that well. It weighs about 9 lbs or 10 lbs. Okay, I want you to throw it off the glass, power it, go up and lay it in and take it to the other side.
Again, just to work on your jumping, getting stronger, usually, what we try to do—it is a drill that we have done before—we try to bang it a little and make a little contact, get them used to getting fouled. Okay, hold it up.
Sean, why do not throw it off the glass, go up and get it. I want you to smack it and go back and put it in.
This is like a medicine ball. Same size as a basketball but it is heavy, a little awkward, create footwork on you and a little strength with your opposite hand. Okay, hold it up there.
Go up and do some taps four or five times and tap it in. okay, it does not look all that difficult, but if you try to do it especially with your opposite hand, it is very difficult.
Obviously, doing it with your opposite hand is much more difficult so if you can do this, you know, most people can do it with their strong hand, but it is definitely good to work on with your opposite hand.
For the rim touches, lifting weights is a great but if you do not have some weights, you can do this on your own. If you cannot touch the rim, you can jump up against the wall. What we usually do is we finish off by doing some free throws in a 20-minute to half-hour work out. Why do not make it one-on-one, and if he makes them both, this is usually done, but if you misses the first, he is going to get his rebound, put it in, he has 10 rim touches. At one point, he was about 55% free thrown shooter and we have got him up to about 78%. Okay, good!
If he would have missed that, what he is supposed to do is get his rebound, put it in with a layup or dunk and he gives us some rim touches. He does his rim touches again. I try to give him a little contact to hold him down, put a little weight on him maybe. And again, just get him used to getting fouled. You cannot him too much, and that is how we kind of how we usually end up.
Okay, Sean, why do you not shoot your one-on-one? If you miss, give us five backboard touches, puts it in, gives me five backboard touches, and makes the one-on-one. Okay.
We will try another drill. It is they superman drill where Michael is going to throw the ball up the basket, we want to smack it high, go get it and catch it outside the paint. Keep throwing it up. It is just an endurance kind of drill, work on his rebounding, work on his hand and eye coordination. And, stop. Good!
