Audra: They’re the beauty products that you’ve didn’t know you needed but I guess with girlfriends we all do. To find out what we must have in our makeup bag we turn to beauty editor Genevieve Monsma from More Talk today. Welcome to the show.
Genevieve Monsma: Thank you very much for having me. Thank you.
Audra: So you guys have to narrow it down for us just to quite a few of them.
Genevieve Monsma: There are quite a few. And these are products you might not necessarily have or have even heard of before. So there are some surprises and in the mix here but I think they’re products that almost everyone would find good to have in there arsenal.
Audra: Exactly! And first, so starting to update your up due because as you get a little older the things that were written before don’t.
Genevieve Monsma: Now these crazy clips are I’d like to call them like a bobby pin on steroids. They have the horse power basically of three bobby pins. You just stick it in your hair like that and it holds the hair up. I mean that was just one clip I obviously wear on my hair.
Audra: And so it has the power of three bobbin pins? Not bad.
Genevieve Monsma: Three bobby pins in one single clip and obviously they’re clear so they disappear in your hair.
Audra: I like those, and very lightweight too. So now next for the manicure, I mean you guys say that ridges in your nails are the equivalent of wrinkles.
Genevieve Monsma: Of wrinkles, you get more of them as you get older, unfortunately. However, we have the solution. This bust out the ridges and it also make sure nails look instantly shiny. So you look polished and good to go and you won’t have to worry about chipping and obviously it goes with everything in your closet,
Audra: Exactly! That’s a big one there, so it should do the trick, right?
Genevieve Monsma: Right. So the buffing, yes, the buffing blocks.
Audra: Next, is a product from—well we all love here on the show Laura Geller and I’ve actually use this product. I really, really like it a lot.
Genevieve Monsma: And I think anyone whose not using a primer at the moment just hasn’t tried one. That must be why. And this is a particularly good value. It has a primer for your face and then it has one for your eyes and one for your lips, all in one.
Audra: You got three in one.
Genevieve Monsma: You’ve got three in one and what it does it fills in any crevices, pores, make sure skin looks smooth, makes foundation, lipstick and eye shadow all last longer, wonderful product.
Audra: And to keep you out around a million different products.
Genevieve Monsma: Right.
Audra: This is the most high powered looking comb I’ve ever seen.
Genevieve Monsma: Right. As we age our hair tends to get a little coarser. It gets dryer. We get more grays. It changes the texture of our hair. Sometimes it’s hard even when we are diligent with conditioner to get a comb through out hair and the last thing you want to do is tear your hair. It’s already pretty fragile. So this new comb from Wydad who’s a curly hair specialist it’s interesting, it’s got two rows of teeth and are rounded at the bottom so they won’t tear the hair and because it’s two rows akin to running your fingers gently through your hair to detangle.
Audra: If this doesn’t do the trick nothing will.
Genevieve Monsma: Right.
Audra: Now our eyelashes kind of do the exact opposite especially—
Genevieve Monsma: They do. They get thinner, sparser and interestingly they get straighter. So if you aren’t using an eyelash curler now you really should. And this is a great one, it’s good for travel because it’s folds up and is compact. But that's how it works, just creams the lashes and stand Betty Boop.
Audra: So get a Betty Boopm, the lip plumpers that are out there now—
Genevieve Monsma: They do. Most of them work by irritating the lips. They have cayenne pepper or something in them to irritate and swell the lips. This particular product from Loreal has collagen in the middle which instantly makes your lips looks fuller and it feels comfortable on. There’s no stinging involved.
Audra: Non at all. So they can make a product that—
Genevieve Monsma: And lots of great colors. Yes, exactly.
Audra: And this product here is a combination of two in one right? Lotion and—
Genevieve Monsma: It hydrates, yes and it has a bit of tint to it. So like a tinted moisturizer for the body and a really great—it dries very quickly and it’s transfer resistant. So you put it on just makes your legs and your arms, your skin tone look more even helps hide broken, you know spider veins, bruises, that sort of thing. And it won’t come off on anything white.
Audra: Thanks so much Genevieve and another great beauty must have that touchback to get rid of those grays fast. If you guys want to get more great beauty must haves at prices you can afford just pick up the November issue of More magazine.
