Marque: Welcome back to GOMI Style. Today, we have a terrific back-to-school project that is fun, fast, easy and a great way to brighten up your dorm room, bedroom or wherever. It uses nothing, but some recycled aluminum cans and some wire and it makes a terrific gift, too. I am talking about the after party flower bouquet. Joining me on today’s project is Kat. The GOMI residence stylist.
The first part of this project comes pretty natural, collecting all the empty after party. But instead of recycling them, we are going to rinse them off and organize them by color. For this project, you need metal snips, scissors, needle nose pliers, a screw driver, a hole punch, knots and bolts and of course work gloves.
First, we want to prepare the cans by snipping away the tops and bottoms leaving a flat sheet of aluminum that we can use to cut our leaf and petal patterns. Be sure to wear your gloves for this step. The edges of the metal can still be sharp.
Female: So, that we have enough flat sheets that consort to cut out the patterns of our leaves and our petals. They do not have to be perfect because after all leaves and petals are organic shapes. So, just have fun with it. Using needle nose pliers, twist one end of the wire into a small loop just like an eye hole, just big enough for the bolt to fit here. Put a washer on the bolt, add the appropriate flower petals followed by a second washer and cut it off with a hand tightened knot. Make the knots snag, but not too tight. Arrange the petals and then tighten the knot and bolt with screw driver.
Marque: Finally, bend the leaves or petals in the naturally occurring shapes. Put them all together in a bouquet. Put them in a vase or an empty bottle and you have a fun and funky DIY project that is in its own way is even better than recycling. Do not get me wrong, recycling is a no brainier, but anytime you can reuse the material and save the energy required for recycling then it is a win-win situation. This easy to make flowers or going to save the planet, but they might just brighten up your little corner.
