What is up with you guy? James Wedmore here with the Bartender For Profit System and today, I am going to teach you a trick that I would like to call Tom Cruise’s flip to pour.
Real simple and easy trick to do, it made Tom Cruise famous when he filmed the movie Cocktail back in 1988, I believe it was about the only trick he could do but he did it so much, he could do it well. So I am going to teach you right now. Very basic, easy maneuver that is just going to have all your guest with the eyes and mouths wide open as they watch you do it.
First, we are going to start with a plastic flair bottle. This is not glass. I practice all my tricks with this practice flair bottles before I ever do them behind the bar or private event or party with glass.
So, the reason for this is you do not want broken glass in your eyes or in people faces, not good. So always practice, practice, practice first once you have it down, where I used to like have a rule thumb 10 times, I can do it with the plastic before I go to the glass until comfortable doing it in front of people.
So here we go, let us get started with the flip to pour. Very basic trick, we are going to start with our bottle in a regular grip and I go ahead. Now, a cocktail shaker in the other hand, you can use a glass, a plastic cup, anything that is going to catch the liquid and would basically bring it up, into the pour and then bring it up.
So do that few more times for you guys, you bring it up, I mean you can bring it way up there and bring it in, have a little fun with it just like that,
Oh, that what I messed up.
Okay, so here we go really fast, like that,
Okay, so here is how we are going to do this trick, I like putting my left hand for starters so when you turn around, and I am showing you how I am going to that in the standard grip pour, it is all in the wrist and you are going to flip the bottle to the outside like so and what you are doing is you just let go when you bring it up and just leave your hand open like so, and the bottle will literally just land right in that.
So watch here, and then you bring it into your cocktail shaker and pour it. So I will do it one more time like that for you to see, just like that.
Okay, so when you have that down, if you obviously do not have a plastic bottle and you want to start training right away, I suggest using a glass bottle. You can wrap it in duct tape. Do not put any water in there, any liquid in there yet. Get used to have it with empty. And when you are ready, you go ahead and step up.
The glass bottle and I want to have it and put a little bit of liquid in there, just some water, we are not wasting any booze on this, but when you are doing a trick like this where you are flipping, you do not want to do anymore than ¼ of the bottle filled with your liquids, with your alcohols. So, if you are going half way above, you are going to have liquor spilling everywhere, so do not do that. So when you are ready, also you want to use the pour spout just like this one if you can see that, then you are all set.
So, usually accords at the end of the night or something, you can start doing the fancy trick like that, but I will show you with the liquid in, it is just as easy, and then you pour down and swing it around. I will do it for you one more time, just like that.
So that is flip to pour trick. From there, we can do all kinds of stuff, in my DVD section, The Bartender for Profit System, I got a ton tricks just like this, I am going to have a ton more posed it on my blog at bartenderconfessions.com.
So, continue to check out and see what else I can offer. Practice, practice, practice and hope to see you out there. Cheers!
