Hi! Everybody this is Quest from Questpoetics.com. What I am going to do with you, you are going to be playing the three easy chords just like this.
[Demonstration]
Just like that man, that is how you write music. You start with a three chord progression and you work, you put some changes in it, so I am kind of tricking you in how to write music even though you do not know it. You are thinking they are learning how to play three chords but that is cool. You go to Questpoetics.com and sign up for the free guitar lessons right now delivered to your inbox every week.
Let us tune up, there is your E string, tune up to your standard tuning, and you will begin with me. Make sure you go to Questpoetics.com and then sign up. So, let us start this lesson, now we have got the double cam going, so you can see strumming and this hand.
Strumming is probably the most important part of guitar. Everyone thinks it is here, it is actually here. So, make sure you do that and keep a good mentality when you are learning, and that you are going to keep learning. You are going to work, you are going to practice because if you do not practice, you will not get good. So, sign up now and practice.
So, let us start with the G, okay, what you are going to do is you are going to get your middle finger, put it on the 3rd fret, 1, 2, 3, see that? And it is on that top, the fattest strings called the 6th string. Index finger is now going to go in the 2nd fret, 1, 2, 2nd fret, okay? And, on the A string which is the 5th string, it is the second fattest one, I am talking on easy terms here because you probably do not know these terms. That is all right, you are going to learn.
Now, so those two are there, okay. Pinky is going to be on the 3rd fret, 1, 2, 3, pinky here. And, ring finger is going to be on the 2nd string also on the 3rd fret, so you see those two?
[Demonstration]
Now, some of you might be playing it and be going up but it sounds like that. Well, that is because you are not curving your fingers right. Notice how I got an arc going, with my thumb, I am pushing on the fret board back here. I am pushing on it hard, so that I can get this arc going to that not that my hands are touching the open strings.
The open strings are the one that your fingers are touching. So, that is a G right there, you already know the G. Alright, we are going to strum down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down. Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down.
[Demonstration]
And notice, how I am playing downs hard. Down, up, down, up, down up. And you count in one, and two, and three, and four. Look at how my hands just falling off, one, then two, and three.
Alright, now so you know this G, now let us work the C. All you do is you keep these two fingers here exactly where they are at, the keys to the top one, the index and the ring finger, you are just moving them both down, see that? Going up there. Now, you just move them here, so now you are on the 5th string which is the A string and the 4th string, the D string. So, now, it sounds like that.
[Demonstration]
Now, let us go to the D. The D is actually going to be--remember a triangle shape. That is what you are going to remember with the D. So, index fingers, 2nd fret, 3rd string, see that? And then, the middle finger is on the 2nd fret also, but on the 1st string, the skinniest one. Now, ring finger is on the 3rd fret, 2nd string, pause it now, and get that right. You begin all those so you can write so many songs man.
