Alright folks and welcome to OnlineLessonVideos.com. My name is Kris Shewmake and today we’re going to be having ourselves a beginner banjo lesson. We’re going to get into tuning, chords, your right hand roles, pull offs, slides and a pinch and then we’re going to finish it off with the tune of Cripple Creek. So grab your banjo, print out your tab ad let’s get started.
So before we get started let’s make sure that you got the right picks on. You want to have a plastic hand pick, and two metal finger picks. You have to make sure that you put them on with the smooth side on the pad of your finger, not on the finger nail. So if you’re ready to go, let’s do it.
So let’s get ourselves in tune. Fourth string D. Third string G. Second string B. First string D. And fifth string G.
So let’s move on to the chords. The first one we’re going to be working with is the G chord. And when you get this all you do is you strum the banjo open. You don’t have to fret any of the strings. The next one is going to be the C chord. You're going to use your index finger on the first fret of the second string. You middle finger on the second fret on the fourth string and your ring finger on the second fret of the first string—that’s the C chord.
The last that we’re going to do is going to be the D seven. After this one, I just want you to strum the first four strings and leave out the fifth string. And use your index finger on the first fret of the second string, and your middle finger on the second fret on the third string.
