Dakota Mitchell: Hi, this is Dakota Mitchell, one of the dozens of dad from Being Dad the DVD.
Sam Holt: And I’m Sam, hope one of the many dads from around the world in Being Dad Two.
Dakota Mitchell: And this is another installment of The Being Dad Blog Series and today we’re going to be talking about what we’re worried about in the second trimester. Now, I’ve seen my baby on my ultrasound. It’s more the same where I got a whole bunch of worries to consider myself with.
Sam Holt: Well you know we talked about it in our last about how because we couldn’t see the baby we were worried about intangibles whereas to say now it’s becoming real so the worries are be coming more real and becoming more about things that you know that concern us physically yeah.
Dakota Mitchell: I know one of the first things you talk about was in laws.
Sam Holt: Yeah well you know, there are so many jokes bout the mothers in law I think it works both ways. It’s not just for him, it’s for you as well. I mean once that baby comes out, you’re going to be seeing a lot more of the in laws particularly if you’re living in the same state. And it’s time now to start laying down some ground rules even in terms of the birth. I mean who is welcome, who is not.
Dakota Mitchell: How much input do they have in terms of racing the baby, pointing stuff together for the baby stuff like that?
Sam Holt: Yeah absolutely and for a lot of guys they’re starting to you know if they get on even if they get on really well with their in laws—
Dakota Mitchell: There can be some tension.
Sam Holt: Yeah it can be stressful. It can be a stressful time so now it’s time to set some expectations.
Dakota Mitchell: Okay. I know for us waiting was one of the big things that happened during that second trimester both hers and mine.
Sam Holt: Well, there is this interesting you can call the couvade syndrome where men actually start showing pregnancy symptoms and one of them is weight gain. Now, I don’t know whether that’s real or not but I know for me what I found was—I love cooking so I know that I was cooking for my wife and she wasn’t that hungry because she had morning sickness and you know she had indigestion so of course she’s just picking her food and—
Dakota Mitchell: I did the same way, whatever she didn’t eat I finish it—
Sam Holt: I was as bad husband or doing.
Dakota Mitchell: I want to become the—so I know for a fact what you’re talking about. Now, what’s going to happen sometime as she’s gaining weight and you know I think it was a beautiful thing but sometimes sex bing intimate becomes an issue for the woman.
Sam Holt: And the guys. Yeah I mean all of these topics and all of these worries I think probably wok both wise but I think the guys initial worries, “Am I ever going to have ex again?”
Dakota Mitchell: Definitely and also prior along those lines you know, “What are the different things that I need to do and make in terms of having sex?” And those are some of the things you probably want to address from both sides.
Sam Holt: Yeah and for a lot of guys it’s you know they worried about you know a lot of guys struggle with sex during pregnancy so what we’re going to do is upload in PDF that you can send to him and he can print of and have a read of and get him a copy of Being Dad the film as well because we talk a lot about sex in there and what are dads put his mind today’s that all of these feelings from worries that he’s having, every other guys out there does you know it’s completely normal not to feel bad, not to feel he’s not coping with it because he’s scared you know like it’s completely wrong.
