Belly Button Makeover

Travis Stork: Before the break, we showed you a home video, it's from Angela. She is so embarrassed about her belly button. She hasn't shown in public for years. Not only that, her kids say, it looks like a pigs nose. So Angela went to see Dr. Ordon for a simple procedure to fix her problem. Dr. Drew Ordon: Hi! There Angela, come on in. Angela has outie belly button. Outie belly buttons are not in. Everybody wants an innie belly button. So if this is the ring of her belly button, we are actually going to place sutures to telescope in that belly button that's sticking up. So we have given her a little sedation. We have injected her up. You should be nice and comfortable. You can see how tough this tissue is, you understand that belly buttons is just scar tissue. So I am not going to make this incision all the way around, we are going to keep the little hood on top, so we want to go down and find the abdominal wall. We went in there, my first few cuts, we actually found intra abdominal fat. We have it through hernia. What we need to do is fix that abdominal wall first, then we will clear them in. This umbilical hernia at some point could have gotten worse for her. So this outie, there was a surgical reason why she had this outie. She had contents of her abdominal cavity, poking through causing this to stick out. We are fixing that out. You see how that is a nice innie, but smooth, that's a natural looking belly button. You like it? Angela: Yeah. Dr. Drew Ordon: Pretty nosey, isn't that. Angela: It doesn't look my belly button which is good. Now, I have an innie now, yeah. Travis Stork: Angela is here with us today and first things first, how are you feeling? Angela: I am feeling great, I am feeling really good. First day or two right after it, it was a little bit pinchy and a little bit of pain. But not that much and now, it's fine. Travis Stork: And she had an outie for a reason because she had her hernia. She did have a reason. Dr. Drew Ordon: And in her case clearly she is a slim women, it's carrying three babies. All that pressure inside her abdominal cavity just caused the contents of her abdomen to pop through, so she actually had a true umbilical hernia. What that means there was a rent a hole in her abdominal wall. The usual covering the fascia was spread apart and fat from inside the abdomen was actually poking into the belly button that's why it felt so cool, when your kids poked on it. But that's the reason, not everybody. Some people are born with an outie without a hernia, as you know it's just scar tissue and it all depends on how the obstetrician cuts that umbilical cord, how much of a stock that you are left with. But ideally we want to have this innie belly button right. But in Angela's case, she was more of an outie like that. So what we did surgically is just around it. I found this hernia. I sewed that first and then, once I did that I was able to inset the belly button to her abdominal wall. And I want to show you exactly, what we did. We have a neat animation that's going to describe exactly what we did inside. So here, we go. We made that incision about half way around. I found a hernia there, I fixed that hernia, those contents, reduced that made it nice and flat then, I put sutures in around it and pull that back in to the abdominal wall. Pretty cool huh! Travis Stork: That's such a cool procedure and this was 10 days ago, right? Dr. Drew Ordon: Just ten days ago, so when we see we are going to drum roll, unveiling now only ten days, so she is not a final result. But big difference already. Can you stand? Travis Stork: Audience anxious to see? So let's first look at our before photo, and that's the pig's nose, according to your kids. And let's go ahead. Dr. Drew Ordon: Okay, she is a little swollen up at here, this is swelling but you see she is innie, when that all heals, that's going to look very good. But the outie is gone. Travis Stork: The outie is gone, and you feel? Angela: I feel great, I feel like it was the belly button, I was suppose to have. Dr. Drew Ordon: Outie with the old, innie with the new.
