Beware of the Golden Cash Botnet - FrugalTech
Have you heard of the Golden Cash network, if you haven’t well, it is an underground network of bad guys out there who can pay your fee to this Golden Cash Network to deposit their malicious software on infected machines on the box, set their members of the Golden Cash Network and that fee is between $5.00 to a $100.00 for 1000 infected PCs. That’s incredible. It is such a thing that’s going on.
There’s a security organization called Finn JM and they did a very nice write-up on this thing and it’s pretty scary. The new depths that the criminals are going to in order to exploit the security holes in domains of the web servers and also on unprotected PCs, and these kind of wrapped these things up to have a whole new levels of sophistication.
And the way it works is essentially is that these guys exploit in the deposit onto innocent websites such as Trojan so that when you browse to that site if you’re unprotected a drive by download what happen with the Golden Cash network Botnet turns your machine into a member of their little army and then starts reporting back to the Golden Cash server and at that point your product, you’re for sale, you’re for lease and the bad guys can then sell, “Okay, we want to put our spy where we want to use so many thousands of these Botnets to send out Viagra spam.” And lo and behold that where it starts happening.
So, it’s really a bad thing, the security organization Finn JM they actually took a photo of their or a clip from their web there is Golden Cash Network and they’re bragging about. They were absolutely bragging about, so that basic question well how we protect ourselves from drive by downloads?
Of course having an up-to-date antivirus Trojan scanner is extremely important. Also making sure that you’re running some type of anti-malware application. I happened to use Windows Defender but also you can also look into tools. One of them that we happened to use is called GFI Web Monitors to plug in for ISA server, but there are applications out there basically that can protect your network users as to browsing against a drive by downloads and usually malicious and fishing websites and you can control adult websites so a sort of thing within.
And so there are tools out there they helped protect yourself against this sort of thing because the last thing you want is your network PC to be part of the bat army and there’s so much financial motivation out there and it’s time to get even tougher though it’s going get worse. You know, there are so much of people who are absolutely brilliant in what they’re doing but they are organizing. The bad guys who are organizing is becoming a big business and therefore things will just going to get risky and risky out there.
Is this a case for buying a Macro using a Linux? No, I don’t think so. I think they’re just proven steps that you can take to secure your Windows network and to keep it from becoming part of the Botnet army and you definitely I would advice anybody and everybody to take these kinds of security and these of threats very seriously.
