Taniya Nayak: By taking three old closet doors that were distained to the dumpster. I created
unique headboards that are now the focal point of this bedroom by simply adding
paint and accessories I recreated this guest bedroom for less than a 100 bucks and
in half a day. I love this project because it’s a neat way to let you something you
already have. I am using some old by fold doors but if you need to go out and buy
them they’re only about $30 per set depending on the size of your bed you can
keep on adding doors. I’m using a full size bed so I’m going to use one full set
and half of another that means three panels to complete the look. I’m going to use
the back of the closet doors which is a nice flat surface and basically a black
canvas for me to work with.
My first step is to remove the hinges and potty the holes to get this doors ready
for painting. All I’m using here is sinkable painters potty, this way I get a nice
smooth surface with no holes. My surface is prep and ready for paint, I’m doing
stripes to add a little bit of interest to this pretty simple and playing room. I’ve
chosen to use five different colors from my strips; I’m starting with my base
colors because they are the lightest. Simply leave a little negative space in
between each color, when it dries tape around it and fill it in with your accent
color. My first paint is dry and now I’m ready to add more stripes and my accent
colors, before I paint my stripe I have to make sure that tape is press firmly to the
door. This way the paint will bleed and I have a nice clean line when I pulled the
tape off.
I’m only using this color in this few spots and I want it to stand out and puff off
the boards. I choose my colors to keep a nice sophisticated palette; this is a guest
bedroom so I want it to appeal to the masses. It’s a good idea to pull the tape
while the paint is a little bit wet, that way it won’t pull the paint with it. See the
smile of my face? That’s why I love this it looks good, the random pattern of the
stripes add a bit of rhythm to the room. It’s been three hours and my doors are
dried, putting the headboard in place is the simple task. A little bit of heavy duty
for I will do the trick, using neutral colors for the bedding will draw the eye
directly to the fabulous headboard. Since the classic doors are refurnish data and
cost me a thing, all I spent was $30 on paint which left me 20 of cash for bedding.
Sleeping in this bed use to cause nightmares, now with the addition of by fold
door headboard, a top of freshly dress, flash bed is nothing but sweet dreams from
here. Best of all you can rest easy, knowing that it was completed in a half a day
and for under a $100.
