Hi, welcome to lesssonswithtroy.com, I'm Troy Brenningmeyer. You deserve Big Sciota, that’s the tune were going to be working on this week. It’s in the key of G and I’d like to say it’s for the intermediate to advance player. So if you're looking for a challenge, this will be a good tune for you. If you bought the lesson, go ahead and print out your tab and set them on a stand in front of you. And also if you bought the lesson, this lesson comes with some backing tracks that are really fun to play along to. So towards the end of the lesson, I’ll be playing along with this tune at a slow tempo so you can hear that and play along with me. Let’s go and get started with the first phrase here in Big Sciota.
Okay, so let’s go ahead and learn this first phrase. If you have your tab, this is going to be measures one, two, and most of the measure three. Starts on beat four, I’ll count you in. 1-2-3. Okay, play it a few times to get it in your head. 2-3-4, 1-2-3.
Okay, so what you're doing there is starting off in beat four with a hammer on 0 to 4 on your 4th string. Right. And then you're going to hit your open 3rd string, then your 4th fret on your 4th string. Back to open 3rd and open 1st. alright, I’ll show you the right hand in just a second.
Okay, and then for beat three there, measure two. On your 2nd fret, 3rd string. You do a pull off there, then back to 2nd fret. And then go to 1st fret on your 2nd string. So that measures one and two. Let’s try that. Now we’re ready for the pull off to get in the measure three. Right, so you just pull off 1 to 0 here in your 2nd string. And then 2 to 0 on your 3rd string. Then 4th on your 4th string. Open 3rd. open 1st. Just like that. Real slow. 1-2-3.
Okay, let’s go and check out the right hand.
Okay, little bit different than most of my videos. I'm trying a mic this time. So as you can see this is an AKGC 1000S microphone. It’s a condenser mic. I set it right above my F hole here. Seems to produce really nice tone. Okay, so hopefully you can see my hand well. Let me show you how I do this.
I start off with my thumb there for that 0 to 4 on my first measure. And then, let’s just play through and see what I'm doing. Okay, basically what I'm doing there is I'm keeping my thumb on my 4th string, index on my 3rd string, and middle on my 1st string. That seems to work real nice. Now when I change it up there, is that I do that pull off 2 to 0 on my 3rd string. I use my thumb there. So start off with your thumb-index-thumb-index-middle and then you can bring your thumb up. Just like that. So thumb-index-thumb-index-middle-thumb-thumb-index-thumb-thumb-index-middle.
Okay, so there's the first phrase. Let’s go and move on to the next phrase.
