The rush of paddling the Platte River and the thrill of riding white water rapids, both experiences can be found here in Golden Colorado and one of the oldest white water parks in the country.
This small town of 1,400 is located just 16 miles west of Denver and it is home to the Clear Creek white water park. Designed in 1998 by Architect Gary of Clear Creek White Water makes perfect use of the river’s natural boulders. The course has at least a dozen drop structures and offers more than seven city blocks of white water fun.
Male 1: You know there’s other parks in Colorado that are two and three hours away but here every time I come I see 10 or 15 of my best paddling friends. So as the community and so convenient, people come after work, or they come before work or they come on their lunch break. And makes it really fun.
Male 2; There’s a little something for everybody, so if your are a brand new to this sport. You can get in here after two lessons, three lessons and feel fairly confident that you not get yourself in a lot of troubles. Because there is a real good support network here.
Though the course is a popular hang out for kayakers a newer sport is beginning to make a splash here. For 55 to 65 dollars, you can do a wetsuit, safety gear and fins to ride a 20 pound plastic board down the rapids.
The sport is called river boarding, Shane Bolling owner of ripboard.com. Gives a river boarding lessons at Clear Creek White Water Park and for him work is serious play.
Shane: I do it because it's a such fun way to get out and enjoy just the urban adventure park that we have here in Golden, Colorado. It's unique to almost any other place in the country and riding rapids is just fun part.
So whether you are into kayaking, river boarding or just relaxing in the sun, Clear Creek White Water Park in Golden is a place you won’t want to miss.
