Bill Larson's Weightloss Success
Better
Audra: But we all know that losing weight isn’t easy but our next guest once
weighed over 400 pounds took more than one seat on the plane and was
never able to shop in normal size stores. With pure determination to live
into his 40s and beyond Bill Larson lost 175 all in the zone, no surgery, no
special food diet program either. He’s here in our studio now to share his
success story and help other people out who are fighting their own battle
of the bulge. Good to have you here Bill.
Bill: Thank you it’s an honor to be here.
Audra: I have chills just reading that 175 pounds.
Bill: Yeah the weight of a grown person.
Audra: How long did it take you to lose from beginning to end to lose the 175.
Bill: Well from beginning to end it took me about 3-1/2 years to do and that
was the beginning of me saying I absolutely have to live this way to save
my life to the fall of 2008 when I finally hit my weight loss school.
Audra: And you kept it off for?
Bill: About a year and a half now.
Audra: Wow, now it’s so tempting for a lot of people to have surgery. Why did
you decide to do without it?
Bill: I decided not to have surgery because I had heard ever since the early
2000 about how many people were having surgery and I just wanted to
give it one last shot just to see if I could do it control what I was eating
and make an actual lifestyle change. So surgery works for some people
and that’s great. I just knew that it was not for me.
Audra: It was a point in your life when you said that your job I believe and they
took photos of you in a couple of other coworkers they wanted you to put
it in a frame and you said that’s when you said I don’t want to do this.
Bill: You know I have taken so many pictures in my life but I was floating
down the river of denial to be completely honest with you but then it was
one day at work in 2005 where I saw a picture of myself and I just decided
that I could not look like this anymore and feel like this anymore that’s
when I decided to do it.
Audra: Was this the problem that you’ve had as a child or was it more so when
you got older.
Bill: Well there was a perfect storm of things going, yes I was an obese child
because there wasn’t a lot of money when I was growing up and also
because I ate a lot of bad foods so the combination of bad foods a lot of
them and lack of activity actually caused me to become not only an
overweight child but carry those behaviors with me into my adulthood.
Audra: That’s amazing and you know with the kids today look at how much
they’ve got to deal with in terms food choices it’s completely different.
Bill: Oh it’s completely different but one of the things that I really want to do is
to tell people that whether their 8 or 80 they can absolutely begin right
now in their own homes. They don’t need any money to begin and all you
have to do is start with sit ups in your home using stairs as your stair
master.
Audra: You even said use your bed like that right.
Bill: You can use your bed if you just want to do sit ups there if it’s too hard on
your back or and just cut out the things that you know that you can cut out.
If you’re having a cheeseburger don’t have fries or don’t have a soda with
it you know make conscious choices and you do it every single day and
you do it for the rest of your life.
Audra: I love it it’s just such an inspiration just having you here and you look
fantastic.
Bill: Well thank you I appreciate that.
